Spoilers Season 2 predictions/discussion thread

Things I Want to See In SNW S2:
  • More Spock/Christine! Sorry, I'm a shipper. Ethan Peck and Jess Bush have entirely too much onscreen chemistry, canon be damned.
  • Having said that, I want to see Christine get more stories that are not about her relationships with men or romantic relationships in general. Let's see more about her outside of her love life.
  • More Erica! She's the only main character who hasn't gotten an episode of her own at this point. Also, Melissa Navia is awesome and we all need more of her in our lives.
  • Generally, the women on this show need a bit more attention. Even though women outnumber men on the show, the men still got to have more episodes than the women. Pike got three, Spock got two, M'Benga got two; of the women, only La'an got more than one episode, and Erica got none. By my count, this is the breakdown on which character "got" which episode:
    • Pike - "Strange New Worlds," "Lift Us Where Suffering Cannot Reach," "A Quality of Mercy"
    • Una - "Ghosts of Illyria"
    • Spock - "Spock Amok," "The Serene Squall"
    • Christine - "The Serene Squall"
    • La'an - "Momento Mori," "All Those Who Wander"
    • M'Benga - "Lift Us Where Suffering Cannot Reach," "The Elysian Kingdom"
    • Nyota - "Children of the Comet"
    • Hemmer - "Lift Us Where Suffering Cannot Reach"
    • Erica - none
  • Generally, this show is also kind of hetero-normative. Let's see some more queer representation on the show!
  • Speaking of which: We need to see the return of Captain Angel! They were awesome!
  • And we need to see some payoff for that Sybok tease.
  • Also SNW needs to give more attention to its POC characters. It's great that M'Benga and La'an got two episodes. But Nyota only got one, and Erica got none. White or white-coded characters got eight episodes while POC characters got five. Let's make this show less white-centric.
  • Generally, I hope we see a little bit more serialization next year. Not full-out DIS-style, but something more like Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Doctor Who under Russell T. Davies -- episodic stories with a serialized subplot playing out in the background that then takes over for the season finale. I think that's the best mix of episodic and serialization.
  • I really hope we get to see the return of Chancellor L'Rell and Ash Tyler from DIS. I want to see how Section 31 went from an officially-sanctioned division of Starfleet to an illegal conspiracy, and I want to see more of L'Rell cos Mary Chieffo is just amazing.
  • Honestly I'd love to see SNW develop the Tellarites more. They're the only founding Federation Members that are still almost completely blank slates.

I hope they end the Spock/T’Pring/Chapel stuff early on. It’s easily my least favorite thing from S1.

I know they won’t but one can hope.

I wouldn't mind the tpring stuff ending but I do like the Spock/Chapel chemistry. So they can keep that.

You don't work in my workplace. So, I will flatly disagree on this point because my experience tells me otherwise.

Good, because it doesn't deserve it at this point.

SNW fanboys may be the new MCU fanboys. They go out of their way to defend ev

In SNW, Spock has the best chemistry with Laan. I would have liked to have seen Spock and Laan as a couple. It would have made more sense since she is an original female character, her personality may match Spock more too and there will be less canon breaking.

A what if scenario for Tpring would have been good. in a quality of mercy that was an alternate future i would have liked to have seen maybe Spock and Tpring married in that timeline. As for Christine, Jee-zus they need to tone her down, she is the complete opposite of her character. Chapel and Spock do have a good relationship when Chapel is not trying too hard to be his girlfriend, which is what she did mostly for the later half of the series and well deserving why some fans are now saying she needs other story lines outside Spock.

In my call back to Buffy, Cordy and Wesley had chemistry when they were flirting but when they actually got together it became awkward and they ended it pretty fast but remained friends That awkwardness I see it already with Spock and Chapel after their hug. Spock and Tpring as a couple do have chemistry in a vulcan way that Spock is and not based on infatuation that Chapel has with Spock. Spock and Tpring could have been the Tuvok and T'pel of SNW.

I don't buy anything with Christine and maybe because the creators of the show have changed her way too much and have repeated the same mistakes of TOS but with a modernised twist. Christine's story is still the same after almost 60 years, except what the creators have done is hide it a bit by making her her fer less timid, more confident , very sexually liberated and more of a sexy woman compared to what she was in TOS.

Maybe this is why her obsessions with Spock in SNW seem less jarring and forgiving to some fans compared to TOS where she got hate from the same fans, but underneath it all. It is still the same, it is even worse because the creators have now relied on modern clichés to explain why her entire plot line in SNW like TOS is trying to be with Spock. We know Spock does not love her in TOS, so anything they are doing here is setting them up for a fail and a partially justified desperation on Chapel’s part 10 years later.

Do I want to see the triangle end? may be, I can live with with but I am at least happy many fans are beginning to grow tired of it.

I will want more of Erica, if she is matures. Laan is the only female character that acts mature. Uhura is growing sure but some of her dialogue can be silly like team Hemura. l. She is reminding me of Tilly in Discovery when Tilly said fucking awesome. Silly dialogue all round for different ages sure runs in New Trek.

I need a space monster episode in season 2 like a giant coronavirus or an eldritch abomination like the one featured in one of the Ships of the line calendars attacking the USS Repulse

I'm predicting we get an episode where they lose , the "oldest" unreplaced piece of the Enterprises hull....lovingly known as THE SCORCH.:guffaw:

They will mourn the entire episode. With the closing scene, Spock recounts in memory how they lost the entire forward section several months before....where The Scorch died honorably but they dont speak of it because its classified.

I hope they keep up the focus on these three. One of the best things about the show.

Also Uhura's uniform looks slightly different. She's also not wearing the cadet badge... so is Ensign Uhura coming next year?
Ah good shout re: her new badge. Ep9 implied her cadet training was done and we saw Cadet Tilly promoted for S2 as well.

I was gonna mention the uniform alteration but I thought I was just going crazy!

If you look carefully it seems as if Uhura's uniform lacks the black panels of the skant, but has a zipper up front which the regular shirt doesn't have. So are we seeing a new 3rd variation?

Continuing to characterize Christine as "trying to be his girlfriend" and "obsessed" when in fact both parties have displayed the exact same levels of attraction and the exact same reluctance to act on those feelings, is really gross and borderline misogynistic.

Because that is what she is. You admit indirectly when you said more stories of her without Spock. All she has done is tried to be is his girlfriend.

Chapel has always been my least favourite love interest for Spock based on TOS but SNW has made it much worse because they played the same old card but gave it a new millennial twist, which just make it worse because millennial writing can stilll be bad. Honestly I can wait for Lelia to appear of for Uhura to possibly start showing attraction to Spock. Two women, who from TOS and SNW are better female characters than Chapel. Although I am still a Spock and Laan fan and I though their mind meld would have been a good foundation for a romance that fits in SNW.

Spock has shown more mutual attraction to Tpring even if that is weird based on TOS, with Chapel he is responding to how she is acting with him. It is a cause-and-effect scenario.

Additionally both parties did not show the same level of reluctance since Chapel has manipulated many situations to get Spock to move past the friend stage. This is still Chapel from TOS but she is worse in SNW because of the more modern writing where she is quite devious unlike TOS where it was more of an innocent love.

The alternate reality episode has sort of given a lot away, we still Chapel pinning over him but it seem pretty clear that in that alternate future, the love may have become unrequited from his part since we see a more colder Spock with Peck channelling Nimoy.

I love the attitude that if a woman is pinning over someone it's "bad writing" but a male figure could do the same and have no issue (in fact, just watched an NCIS episode with that happening). Chapel and Spock have an interesting dynamic that is 100% back and forth in terms of how they express affection for each other. Chapel is trying to sort out her feelings, and Spock is navigating being half-human and half-Vulcan and how to express himself. He even struggles with T'Pring.

Feels pretty relatable to me.

They melded once.

They melded once, the one time the show talked about Michael. Spock and Laan would have been better. The love triangle is quite questionable since Chapel is not supposed to even know T-Pring In TOS, Chapel was a meh female character, but in SNW she is still the most meh female character.

In what way was Chapel "pining over Spock" in the alternate future? The only scene she was even in in that episode was near the end when Pike goes to sickbay and sees Spock has gotten a similar injury to what he should have gotten. True, Chapel was visibly upset when reporting Spock's statistics, but that need not mean there's anything romantic between the two. We already know from season 1 of SNW that Spock and Chapel have developed a close friendship. Add an extra seven years for that friendship to develop, and it becomes very understandable why Chapel would be so upset to see Spock essentially dead.

Wrong. Michael Burnham has been mentioned twice on SNW. Besides, Spock's mind meld with La'an, Spock also mentions to Pike how much he misses Michael in the premiere.
