Season 1-2 uniforms, a defense

The thing for me is the uniforms from First Contact onward look so hot. I don't know what temperature they keep Starfleet ships, but maybe the S1 and 2 uniforms are more comfy...especially the miniskirt!
This could all be a function of me, a Winnpegger, living in Taipei where in the summer it gets up to 35 Celcius and with the humidity factored in they say it feels like 45 to 50. I miss being chilly.

I always thought they looked hot as well. Maybe it's because in FC, the temperature was jacked to like 38C because of the Borg. There were scenes where they were all sweating so maybe that left an impression on us both.

I thought it was neat that you're from Winnipeg. What a small world. I'm in Winnipeg right now, born and raised!

I didn't like that you could see the nipples/man boobs on the men (especially Data and Geordi). On a uniform, that's just not right. Thank goodness they got rid of that in season 3.

Hey, if you've got it, flaunt it!
;)

LOL. Hard muscular pecs from a fit person are one thing but pointy, flabby man boobs are another. And Data and Geordi weren't even fat so that has to tell you something about those uniforms. Can you imagine someone who was overweight where the boobs go to the sides under the arms? Yikes!!!

I will never understand why some people like a miniskirt on a uniform. It's the reason I hate the TOS female uniform and it's sure as hell a knock against this one. And from the waist up it looks like a track suit compared to the normal uniform. Absolutely ridiculous.

You're probably right about associating the new uniforms with heat from that movie.

Yep..I was raised in the North End. I miss the summers in Winipeg as Taipei just smells like one big, hot autobin all year.

Any qualms about the uniforms I might have are completely eclipsed by how bad the "casual" clothing all the crew wear off-duty is....

I liked the concept of the S1 & 2 uniforms much better than the S3+ ones. But the early uniforms needed better fabric. And they really looked best on someone with a decent physique. The S3 uniforms look stupid with that zipper up the back and the looser fit was kinder to less-than-ideal figures.

I'd rather have the zipper up the back (S3+) than right down the front like in the S1 and 2 uniforms.

I thought the civilian clothing in Enterprise was very nice. But that could change in 20 years from now. I'm sure in 1987, the civilian clothing in TNG was awesome! LOL

No it wasn't. It always - always - looked odd and unattractive, and often uncomfortable, too.

And why such boring colors? It's not right that the most colorful items in most people's wardrobes was generally their uniforms, for God's sake!

I generally hated the TNG off-duty clothes, right back from the 80's. Pretty much the only outfit I thought anything of was the outfit that Picard wears in Starship Mine. I thought that looked in-character and believeable. A couple of the women's dresses were okay, too.

On the subject on the season one and two uniforms, I find myself thinking that I like them.

I have to say it was amusing being able to measure how large each character's paunch was. And counting Picard's ribs. ^^

The first time I saw em were on the dead guys during season 7's Pegasus. I thought oh neat thats how old time unifoms used to look...then I saw AGT, then the reruns flipped back to Season 1, and going from Season 7 of TNG to Season 1. It was SO different. So at the time 93, or 94 i didn't like them. But now I think I do....they are very different.

Like TMP I liked how early TNG was trying for something different. Afterwards I found the frumpy looking 3rd season onward uniforms a disappointment. I didn't like contemporary Trek uniforms again until DS9.

Then I disliked the uniforms they introduced in the TNG films, that were so dark and drab.
