Sean Connery is dead.

I honestly never realized Connor had a French accent, I never really payed that much attention to the accents back when I watched the movie.

I am old enough to have seen Dr No in movie theaters. I was a kid but it was an incredible experience and I was totally hooked. He was great, will always be the best Bond. RIP
My father disliked the British, so I never saw the Bond films in the theatre as a child. Near as I can tell, when he was in the USAF he was stationed in Canada for a bit and some Brits also stationed there pissed him off.

Naturally. Canadians are far too polite to piss anyone off. :shifty:

Before he "died", Connor did seem to have a normal Scottish accent. It was only when we met him later in his life - after he'd been around for centuries - that his accent started to get weird (like when the NYC detectives ask him where he's from and he says "Lots of different places"). Which of course it would - an immortal being would move around so much that their accent would be all over the place.

Out of my childhood heroes, Sean, Robert Conrad (Wild, Wild West), Adam West (THE Batman, dammit), Patrick Macnee (the real Avengers), and Leonard Nimoy are gone. I could include Patrick McGoohan (The Prisoner) but he was more a teenage hero, I didn’t really get The Prisoner until I was a bit older. All’s left is William Shatner, who slept with the sexiest aliens ever, and only ever needed 90 seconds to save the universe. May he live forever.

What are your memories?

Adam West was the definitive Batman. Until Val Kilmer, but it was Keaton who showed the role and tone could be changed and still have the franchise appreciated, even if Keaton, Kilmer, et al, looked nothing like West. Granted, the level of camp and seriousness melded is a fine balance not often found and not always a consistency either and Batman, for me anyway, should have a flowing mix and intertwining of styles and not be so decidedly camp (season 3, 1997's B&R that overdoes it) or equally serious (some of the movies). Adam is always at the top of my list. He's also the one and only Captain Q. Why they changed the Quik mascot from him into a hyperactrive faceless bunny that was nowhere near as enduring for kids, I've no idea...

Nimoy could be seen in a lot of shows, but I found it amusing how he would don a dark outfit and sunglasses in his guest role in "Get Smart".

Connery was the definitive Bond that even Ian Flemming originally didn't want. But dayum, Connery sold the antihero well and his first three movies are the definitive ones.

Other than Bond, he pretty much runs the show in Zardoz - which he took on in order to escape typecasting, even though the role fell right back into it anyway.

Zardoz is a real treat for anyone who hasn’t seen it yet.

That's one way to word it,, but it's become a cult classic for any number of reasons. It's a bizarre spectacle worthy of the era, an era ripe with experimentation leading to numerous cult classics, that not every member of every cult will enjoy but that's part of the fun.

The teaser/trailer for the high concept horror film, rated R, does keep most of the good moments unspoiled:

Unlike most youtube review videos, which freely show every last bit... so nobody go to look those up, you need to be shocked on your own.
