SD Comic Con Sells Out in 1 Day

Tickets for the 2011 San Diego Comic Con went on sale today (Feb. 5) at 9 AM Pacific time.

Despite server problems that have become all too common with the Comic Con organization, all tickets sold out before the day was done. 4-day passes and single-day passes for Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday are gone.

I do believe they've set a new record.

There's going to be a display that will show all of Clark's superpowered fights in order. The total runtime is about 3 minutes long.

Twilight fans seem to get blamed with clogging up San Diego the past few years; so that's a potential accelerant. It will be interesting to see if things make any significant change once Twilight movies are out of production.

Honestly the big major panels are dominated by film and television shows...but the big comic book panels are still packed and there are workshops and individual speakers over the weekend. It is on my bucket list to attend San Diego one year...but man doesn't look like it will be possible with these quick sell outs year after year. It just continues to become bigger and bigger.

Definitely going to get 2012's passes at the convention if at all possible.

Oh yeah. Though some of the big movies are set to release before Comic-Con, but they'll still probably have lots to sell there.

When 2010 sold out I recall reading that the reason for the quick sell out then was the large number of people pre-reserving a slot during the 2009 Con. Thus leaving fewer tickets to go sale during the normal time (which is now).

I think that's become a cop-out, to be honest. The fan bases of other movies and TV shows have become just as rabid and annoying. Every geeky cliche imaginable is present in abundance: nerdy fanboys and girls jamming the hallways and ballrooms in the quest to stuff their gift bags full of free swag, or to catch just a glimpse of their favorite movie star. I started attending Comic Con in the 1980s. What exists today isn't remotely the same animal.

Got my ticket, thankfully. I'm going with some friends - they went a few years back, but this will be my first Comic-Con experience and my first trip to California. I'm very excited, but I just booked the hotel and air fare and cried a little over the bill.
