Twilight fans seem to get blamed with clogging up San Diego the past few years; so that's a potential accelerant.
I think that's become a cop-out, to be honest. The fan bases of other movies and TV shows have become just as rabid and annoying. Every geeky cliche imaginable is present in abundance: nerdy fanboys and girls jamming the hallways and ballrooms in the quest to stuff their gift bags full of free swag, or to catch just a glimpse of their favorite movie star.
