Scruffy-looking untitled Han Solo film thread

Sure, but they are also most familiar with it as well. Disney can absorb a few duds, as well as retool around the merchandise to improve sales again.

This isn't new to them.
If I recall, the prequel toy sales stayed very strong. So why the difference now?? My view..

Content and oversaturation.

Why is it when people complain about Star Wars it is almost always "Disney's fault"?

I rarely see anyone blame Disney for any Marvel movie faults.

Because Disney is evil. And that's half joking, half serious because there is so much hatred towards Disney with regards to Star Wars.

My own personal theory is simply that Star Wars as a film franchise existed before, while Marvel movies were hit and miss. Star Wars was a bastion of independence in film-making and now there is the view that it has "sold out" to a corporation. So, even though there was a lot of hated directed George Lucas for the PT and SE, Disney is hated more.

You recall very incorrectly. Toy sales took a serious dive for Phantom Menace alone, and by fall 1999 most of the TPM toyline was reduced by 75% of the price it was when it was released in May.

Also, the May 3 release of the Phantom Menace toys was a huge event with many stores opening at midnight to cash in. However, no such even has happened for any Star Wars movie since, not even the Force Fridays for the Disney movies get that kind of fanfare.

Actually both AOTC and ROTS had massive Midnight Madness launch events on a similar scale on April 23, 2002 and April 2, 2005 respectively. And the 3D rerelease of TPM in February 2012 was preceded by a huge rollout of toys with a heavy Episode I theme, a vastly overestimated merchandise blitz that left big box retailers choking with unsold Episode I 3D merchandise for the better part of two years if not longer.

The recent cutbacks in toy articulation, features and manufacturing quality are in part related to how badly Lucasfilm, Hasbro and other licensees and retailers got burned on a massive rollout of toys for a rerelease of a movie that was already controversial and widely disliked long before 2012. Everyone seems to have watched their bottom line more carefully, leading to less quality and fewer figures and characters being released in a given year - Disney, the new Sequel Trilogy and standalone films notwithstanding.

Speaking of Cameos, this one is a huge one that I was spoiled on.

Don’t open (or quote the post) if you want to be surprised, as it is also a big story spoiler

Darth Maul shows up as a hologram, it sounds like he’s Dryden Vos’s boss, Qi’ra talks to him after taking over Dryden’s position. People who have seen the movie say he is physically portrayed by Ray Park, and voiced by Sam Witwer.

Ray Park was also at the premier, though that doesn’t prove anything.

The review embargo is up tomorrow, so we will find out then if it is true

AWESOME.

I hope that it's true for multiple reasons both canonical and Nerdrage-triggering! I'd love to see him return to the franchise and not just as an animated character.

I'm going to stock up on popcorn and cold drinks and enjoy this if it's true. The only thing that would have been better than that is Jar Jar showing up and getting the high ground.

I am so confused right now. Should I let go and let old things die? Or should I drop seventeen fifty on a Han Solo origin film that takes place ten years before a forty one year old movie.

Is it "do as you say" Disney? Or is it "do as you do"? Or do you not even know anymore. What's the difference, it's all money in the bank anyway; Right?

Do you like Han Solo? Watch it.

I don't like Han Solo so I am mixed on this film. I don't see it as necessary (then, what Star Wars is?) so I'm not convinced to go yet.

Also, why give more money to someone you hate?

I’m pretty sure Ricky is just misunderstanding TLJ’s message.
