Scruffy-looking untitled Han Solo film thread

Of course the guy can't act. He can't even take simple direction!

I got to admit, the vacuum that surrounds this movie is getting a bit worrying. It's supposed to be out in May, here we are end of December and there's no trailer, no movie photos, no poster, no merchandising plans made public, not even any news concerning a tie-in novel or comic. Even taking into account the re-shoots, there should still be something available by now if they are indeed going to make the May release. Hell, based on the precedents of TFA, Rogue One and TLJ there should be a Force Friday to launch the merchandising campaign no later than March.

Maybe I'm jumping to unfounded conclusions, but does anyone else get the impression this movie might end up being withheld until next December? Or at least next fall?

This is what worries me, too, not the earlier report that can only be taken with a huge serving of salt. I was surprised there wasn't a trailer for the film in front of The Last Jedi, or at least a teaser. We have gotten some production photos and Ron Howard's regular tweets about his role in the production, but that's it. There definitely should be more at this point.

I honestly thought it had already been pushed back to December until some article remarked that it was due in May, which genuinely shocked me for all of the reasons you laid out.

Everything with Star Wars stamped on it is beginning to worry me these days.

Ohhh George, why have you forsaken us?!!

Putting the movie out in DEC 2018 kinda makes sense as there will be a long gap without anything until episode 9. I'm sure we will see some trailer in the next week or two.

Ohhh George, why have you forsaken us?!!
I think it's because of the shit we gave him for the prequels.

I know it's blasphemy for a Star Wars fan to say this, but I don't miss him. Most of the best Star Wars stuff has always been the stuff he was less involved in. I feel the same way about him as I do Gene Roddenberry when it comes to Trek, they had some great ideas, but they didn't really reach their full potential until they took a step back and left the heavy lifting to other people.

I hadn't realized that until now, but this is a bit concerning.

Does Disney have another movie for next Christmas coming out? I know Aquaman is due for release but as if Disney are scared of WB/DC. I don't understand why they want a summer release instead of a Christmas one because a 2nd movie in the space of 5 months risks serious fatigue even if it's not part of the Episode arc stories...

Not too mention the film sounds like it could of done with the extra work and time for marketing.

I don't know why they still want a May release for this film when December seems more viable. Especially with the problems this film has had and that there have been, basically no promotions for this film....anywhere. Not even a Star Wars Celebration. The public knows, basically nothing about this film. Like its the secret Star Wars film that will be out in five months.

Lucas forsook us the moment he connected the force to weird microorganisms in your blood.

Disney has been very deliberate with their hyping, they like to flood your consciousness all at once at the moment they've carefully calculated based on extensive research with maximize excitement.

I think they'd at the very least wait until the TLJ hype dies down and gives them sufficient audience reaction data for them to calibrate the optimal excitement formula.

Mary Poppins is due out on Christmas Day 2018.
Did the May date come from before or after they fired Lord & Miller?
Before. Remember, every Disney Star Wars movie was originally scheduled to be released in May, but they all got postponed to December except for some reason Solo.

I'm still not entirely sure why Kathleen Kennedy thought these guys would be a good fit for this type of film in the first place.
She should have just kept them in mind for the inevitable Lego Star Wars movie.

OK, wow, I actually agree with you there. I have to admit, my first reaction when I heard they were picked to direct was "those guys?". They've done some great comedies, but they definitely would not have been my first pick for something like this.

It's a bit weird they didn't postpone the movie considering how things went.
That is strange, I would think the first thing they would have done when it became clear Lord & Miller weren't working out was postpone the release.

That looks really cool, any idea how expensive it is?
