Scruffy-looking untitled Han Solo film thread

I have to say I’ve been pretty meh on this so far. I still think I’m going to be a little annoyed if it’s the small universe of the whole Han/Chewie friendship / Han/Lando friendship / origin of Han getting the Falcon / the Kessel Run / origin of Han’s blaster / why Han’s a smuggler all in two hours that it looks to be, and overall, I can’t say it looks like a film with a lot of substance to it BUT, I will say, for the first time, this looks like a fun movie.

Excuse me if this has been discussed, but what time frame is this taking place? Shortly after the prequels?

Thank you,
Joe
I don't think we have an official point in time yet, but from what I've read Han is supposed to be around twenty or in his early twenties in this, so based on his age in ANH (31, I believe*) I'm assuming it's set about ten years before ANH, nine years after ROTS.

*ETA: Looked it up, and he was apparently 29 by the time of ANH in the pre-Disney era, and while his age hasn't been officially declared in the new canon he's apparently no more than ten years older than Luke and Leia, which would still make him 29 at the oldest. So, yeah, 20-ish in Solo.

Whoever decided it was a good idea to slap in some generic modern techno-esque music on this trailer made a big error. Music is a big part of the atmosphere of the SW Universe. Without it, it feels much more generic and disposable.

Well, seeing as Han was 29 in ANH and Chewie 200 years old this film apparently takes place 10 years before the original film and nine after ROTS. Chewie is 190 years old in this film. Han even repeats the age Chewie tells him.

Visually, this film looks stunning. Storywise, it is probably another trip to Nostalgia Lane, with what we know or what we have to accept about Han being the major points of this film. I can see in the film the game where Lando lost the Falcon to Han over a game and the Kessel Run. I might be also seeing the time when he dumped cargo, which might be become a headache explaining how a criminal mastermind like Jabba would let Han go freely for however long it was until the fourth movie.

The purpose of the trailer was to tempt the public to part with their cash, and it certainly worked on me.

I have a bad feeling about this.

In fairness, I felt the same way about Rogue One and Last Jedi and loved them, and about The Force Awakens and...didn't.

I'll decide when I see it. Not convinced (yet) by the casting.
