Scotty man.............

Mr. Scott

Commander
A very kind, sweet person, but don't cross him. Pretty hard too, more or less Scotty would just trot out of the bar and either beam home to his ship or go to another bar.

He had little common sense besides his brillance in engineering.

Scotty never got married. Someone as proud as him could of married in his clan.

He loved to build, create or make the engine more productive. Scottish people are not lazy, and they are all doing something. If the ship could go 9.99999999997 warp, Scotty would be out there figuring out whay it wouldn't go 9.99999999998 warp.

Maybe, a good third officer. A damn good third officer. I hope in the future movies Simon Pegg has a greater role. Commander Scott didn't take sh*t from his enemy. In a TOS episode he promised to take as many down as he can. Scotty didn't like Kirk, but he loved his ship, and everyone was going to come back to his ship.

By and large he was a kind man who LOVED to show you anything he created, invented and engineered. Someone who drank modified 23rd Century Jagermeister on Raisa in a loud Hawaiian shirt, shorts and a cheap cigar. Part of him wants to rat out Kirk for being a jerk and all the temporal and starfleet regs broken, but he was a damn hero. But every engineering crew in Starfleet knows that Montgomery Scott is the author of their books and whatever the Command posers in the Academy thinks they know from Kirk came from Scott.

A builder, a leader, and a friend. Sadly the actor James Doohan I never met in a convention. I would of loved to drink a shot of scotch with Doohan at a convention.

A guy who would be happy reading schemtics of current and future

A colorful if slightly non-canonical characterization. Scotty was extremely possessive and proud of the Enterprise, to the point of trading blows if someone insulted “his” ship (“The Trouble With Tribbles”). Scotty may have subconsciously thought of Kirk as merely the “bus driver,” but there was no indication in TOS that he had any negative feelings toward Kirk -- except perhaps when Kirk would order the ship's engines pushed to the limit. “My bairns . . . my poor bairns!”

And somehow I never got the impression that Scotty would ever wear loud Hawaiian shirts or smoke cheap cigars.

Did Jimmy Doohan even like Scotch?

On the contrary, not only was there no indication that the character Montgomery Scott didn't like Kirk, in TMP, he seemed to have genuine loyalty and admiration for Kirk. :"Anyman who could manage such a feat, I would not dare dissapoint. She'll launch on time. And she'll be ready. Also, in TSFS he showed incredible loyalty to Kirk in that he was willing to face courtmartial to help him.

Just because James Doohan had problems with Shatner, it doesn't mean the characters did.

I got to chat with James Doohan once on a radio call-in show in LA back in the 90s. He was a cool, cool guy.

Neat thing with Scotty is he was such a bad ass when he was in command.
I haven't watched TOS in a while but the handful of times he was in command he was quick, decisive and never failed.

Scotty even called Kirk "Jim" in one episode ("Mirror, Mirror").

My brother was hauling equipment for the film the Duke and got to met him, and got the same impression, even got his autograph.

For all his faults, there is no one else I'd rather have as Chief Engineer, and for that matter, I'd make him my second in command.
