I like all the Star Trek series and yes even all the movies to varying degrees, but i must say I think Scorpion is my all time favorite of all. The story with something worse then the Borg, the CGI, the fantastic musical score all make a fantastic movie! Truly a masterpiece in my opinion, had Enterprise maintained this standard of excellence perhaps we would not be in the Star Trek lull right now...

Scorpion is my favorite VOY episode(s) and ranks up there with the very best of Trek. As far as Borg episodes go, this is second only to TNG's The Best of Both Worlds.
You are right it is quite epic and has so much to enjoy and appreciate--the Borg, not just another BoBW retread, continuity touches(Janeway reviewing Picard's logs, Wolf 359), all the preparations that acknowledged the reality of the situation(the Doctor studying the drone from "Unity", seeing a Borg filled colony getting destroyed, the CGI of Species 8472, Kes being put to good use, the entire debate among the staff and then Janeway/Chakotay covering the pros and cons.
The only thing that really was a weakness was the DaVinci holodeck scenes. I understand why they were included but they were ultimately the least interesting thread. And Part II was a bit of a letdown and stepdown from Part I.
I liked the idea of adding a Borg regular but I didn't care for Jeri portraying an emotional, humanlike Borg. They should have killed off Harry Kim.

Enterprise had some comparably strong stories. I thought the last 6 or so episodes of season three compared very well to this and DS9's Final Chapter Saga. And season four's Vulcan trilogy

I like it how polite they are about Kim shitting his pants when the 17 Cubes show up on screen. No one makes fun of him or complains about the smell. They're all so understanding.

It was required because the borg determined it to be so - there was no such thing as individual determinism among the borg.
As for C/7 - they had very little in common - at least as far as the aired episodes go. Seven has an aunt Irene Hansen on Earth.
I realoly like it how they make it out to be that 7 of is their responsibility to save and is the only human they even try to save, condemning the other humans to death, even though they all know that humans do retain and reknew their individuality after they remove the Borg implants.
You don't even have to do that. Just jam the hive mind transmission. Hugh was "Humanoid" after a couple hours of being locked in that cell with the buffers. I'm quite amazed that they didn't make entire starship eco systems to the specifications of that cell?
I agree with both.
Just finished watching Scorpion I & II over two nights.
The Introduction to a new enemy Species 8472 was pretty terrifying. They were no alien of the week.
The story is well paced. I actually haven't watched the episode since I saw it on Broadcast.
I had forgotten quite how 7 of 9's regenerating bays arrived on Voyager.
The CGI visual effects were all top notch. I like how Neelix was relegated to hardly saying anything at the meetings (if that).
I like how Species 8472 has a weapon from 6-8 ships all working together to destroy a planet.
I thought the introduction of 7 of 9 was well done and gave a lot of insight to her character's actions for the rest of the series now looking back on it.
There was science involved with the nanoprobes and the EMH Doctor was an integral part of this plot.
Chakotay's decision to decompress the deck was similar to ENT:"Regeneration" when Archer did the same thing as a tactical move.

As I recently said in another thread, I actually prefer "Scorpion" to "The Best of Both Worlds" and always have. I honestly don't know how it would rate on a list of best episodes of Trek though, except that it wouldn't be number 1 for me. That spot will always be held by DS9's "The Visitor".
I didn't care for the idea of 8472 used in that episode. I always felt that the story, which was sound but just wrong for 8472, would have worked better on DS9 with the Founders running such an installation to prepare for their infiltration of the Alpha Quadrant.
I remember being in Jr. High and my friend and I eating lunch just talking about how it was blowing our minds that there was an Alien able to defeat the Borg. This is back when the Borg = unstoppable scary. I was so pumped up and couldn't wait for Part II.
However, nothing will top the feeling after seeing Best of Both Worlds Part 1. That is one of the few moments that when the screen says, "To Be Continued" you jump up out of your chair, fall to your knees and scream "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!"

Scorpion was one of my favorite Voy episodes as well. I thought it had a great storyline to introduce Seven of Nine to the series, as well as an excellent musical score. It even has the musical score on year four's DVD set! 
And yes, I thought that part II was a little dull compared to the first part. But cliffhangers are always like that. I know Basics Part I and II were like that!

Well, the negative reaction to the 8472 was that they had to get rid of them and couldn't keep them around.
