scifi's biggest TWIST!

AVP Requiem. To this day, I just cannot wrap my mind around the shocking revelation that someone somewhere thought that a sequel to the last one was a good idea on any level.

Then Planet Of The Apes.

The Darth Vader "I am your father" moment was not surprising since the news came out about him being Luke's father before the movie hit the theaters. Me and my friends read about in in magazines and newspapers so going into the movie we knew how it ended, but we still enjoyed it.

I would say the biggest twists for me would be finding out who the final five Cylons are. I wouldn't have imagined in a million years COL Tigh was a Cylon. The other twist was Dee blowing her head off in NuBSG. I didnt see that coming either.

Only because I just watched it -- "War Without End, part II" (Babylon 5).

I don't know - for me, this is the best surprise plot twist in scifi TV for sure...and I haven't watched it (again) in over a year!

Not only is it a great twist, but it's a MEANINGFUL twist that brings the entire plot of the show full circle. :techman:

Fo'sho. That and it involved my favorite human character, Sinclair. The last shot of WwE, part II gives me chills every time.

Me too. And I actually prefer Sheridan to Sinclair as a whole (although I like both very much).

In fact, this might be my second favorite single moment in the entire show....the first being when Delenn shows up in Severed Dreams.

Of course, that latter really isn't a plot twist - just a great moment.

But the end of WWE??? I was SOOO surprised the first time I saw it! And it is still a moment I very much look forward to in repeated viewings.

"Planet of the Apes" (1968)

Major twist that no one has mention (though admittedly NOT sci-fi or even genre): The last few minutes of the TV series, "Newhart" . . .

The Planet of the Apes should win the title.

As for those who say The Sixth Sense was a surprise twist I say: HUH???????

After Bruce Willis' character is shot I noticed right away that no one but HJO interacted with him. There had to be a reason for that. The kid sees dead people, no one else but HJO interacts with Willis, therefore he must be dead. After that I just waited to see why Willis hadn't gone on yet.

I thought that the episode, Z'Ha'Dum (B5), or more specifically, the big reveal about the Shadows and the Vorlons and the reason for their never ending conflict that flared up every 1000 years caused me (and probably everybody else) to completely re-evaluate their understanding of the whole conflict with the Shadows, as well as the nature of the Vorlons-it certainly redefined the conflict in a way that I certainly had not expected.

Star Wars Episode II/AOTC: The clones are fighting FOR the Republic NOT against it???? Shocked the hell out of me when I first saw it. That completely changed my understanding of what the Clone Wars was all about. Some of the movie might not have been entirely great but THAT reveal was sheer brilliance!

Star Wars Episode III/ROTS: Although it was maybe not entirely unpredictable, the imposition of Order 66 resulting in the mass slaughter of nearly the entire Jedi Order by their own Clone troopers was pretty darn hardcore tragic. Palpatine set the Jedi up like chess pieces and then knocked them down in one fell swoop.

That, actually, surprised me a bit too. I always imagined the Clone Wars would have involved clones of Jedi and people being surreptitiously replaced by evil duplicates.

Did you see that movie early or did someone tell you that there was a big twist?

I saw the movie on its 3rd weekend and wasn't aware there was a twist..so I was blown away. Even f you were able to figure it all out..you must understand that it wouldn't be obvious to be able to see that he was a ghost the whole time.

I saw it during its first week (I think it was a matinee showing). No one else I knew had seen it, I went to watch it because the "I see dead people." line made it sound spooky. Figured it out. It was just too obvious. No one but HJO interacted with him, which was the giveaway. It was implied that Willis was hired to help HJO, but the mother never talks to him? Way to obvious.

I also figured out The Village pretty quickly too; I will admit that for this one I was expecting a twist. I've only seen two Shyamalan movies, both pretty disappointing.

Biggest twist/suprise?

Lost - Michael killing Ana Lucia and Libby

Sixth Sense - The ending had pretty much had everyone sucked in, aside from those omniscient few by which nothing seems to get by....

New BSG - I haven't seen Season 3 onwards so for me the biggest suprise was the end of Season 1 where Adama gets shot.

Babylon 5 - The Vorlons are Angels who have posed as religous figures on various planets for thousands of years to manipulate people..........

For those of you who say 12 monkeys - one of my all time favorites, by the way - what "Twist" are you guys thinking of? Where he dies in front of his younger self? I can't think of any "suprises" or "twists" in that movie..........

The 12 Monkeys twist is that the woman leader from the future appears on the plane with the virus guy at the end and says she's in insurance. Is she from the future? Will she kill him? Will she prevent the virus outbreak? Will she just take a sample to use in the future for a cure? Was that her past self, unaware of the cosmic irony? It's a mind blower!

SPOILERS

This isnt really a movie, but the twist was still there in the video game, Dead Space. The whole time I thought the black dude knew more than he was telling about the artifact, but in reality the chick who crash landed with you on the Ishimura was really in cahoots with the govt the whole time.

Not omniscience, just observant. I have been surprised by movies. I didn't see Picard becoming Locutus. I didn't see that Founders had replaced Bashir and Martok.

I would also like to add that The Others does have a good twist that I didn't see coming.

That's odd, because I got that one...and I'm usually not good at guessing what's coming next.

When I saw Unbreakable I knew there was supposed to be another twist, but I couldn't figure it out...I kept thinking "Jeez, don't tell me he's a ghost in this one too!"
