Interesting article on Trekmovie.com today from these 2. There is a bit of Star Wars/Star Trek comparison, which I dont know yet how I feel about it, but wont deter me from any plans i have already. There is a small snippet I did find encouraging from Kurtzman on "It would have broken our hearts if Star Trek just faded away."

I still have high hopes that wont happen :). I would be very interested to hear what you guys think about it.

It certainly can't hurt.

You know, if they just said "Star Trek needed to be made entertaining" they'd be strung up. "Rock and roll" is as good a euphemism as any.

Personally I preferred the near-acoustic ENT anthem, but a rocker thought it needed a backbeat and some frantic strummin' after two seasons...

Just so long as JJ Abrams' didn't invite Slash to do a 7 minute guitar solo.

Rock 'n roll, baby! Yipppeee!

(They're probably right, though. We don't need two hours of talking heads -- we need Talking Heads.)

First Contact had Magic Carpet Ride, so why not?

I'd have preferred the sex and drugs.

The new Trek theme needs some techno hip-hop beats.

I get the impression they're using "rock and roll" as a euphemism. I think that's the least of Trek's needs right now, but a bit of rock certainly won't hurt.

I think it's rather loaded, myself. For the film to "rock and roll", it's going to have to "change the game", and "take it to the next level". They're setting expectations very high...

Re: Trekmovie.com article on Orci/Kurtzman: Star Trek needs Rock and R

At least they didn't say Star Trek needs some "Barry Manilow." We don't need another NCC-1701-D or Voyager.

I'm a rock.....it.....man....!

Re: Trekmovie.com article on Orci/Kurtzman: Star Trek needs Rock and R

Adding music that's popular when a film is made is the easiest way to date it - just look at all the movies like that from the '80s.

Re: Trekmovie.com article on Orci/Kurtzman: Star Trek needs Rock and R

Again, as someone else pointed out, O&K are using the term "Rock and Roll" as a metaphor. I think people are taking this too literally. Star Wars had very little actual Rock and Roll in it, unless you count the Nyub Nyub song and that awful R&B tune added to the Jabba scene in Jedi..

They were, of course, talking about giving it a more Rock and Roll attitude...giving it some balls... Star Trek has been deficient, testicularly speaking, for a number of years.

I don't think people would be too happy if O&K said "we want to give Trek big hairy cojones, man." But essentially, that's what they're doing.

.

The last time folks were talking metaphors in the new movie, it was that the ship being built on earth was a metaphor. See how that turned out?

"We thought it would be a good idea if, at some point in this movie, something exciting happened."

I think what Trek XI needs is "Ooby Dooby"

Well you wiggle to the left, you wiggle to the right
Do the ooby-dooby with all of your might
Ooby dooby... :shifty:
