scifi/fantasy WHIMPS

What's a whimp?

Someone who likes Cool Hwhip..or is a fan of Whil HWheaton...

:p

Sci-fi wimps?

One that comes to mind is the guy from the film 'Congo': Richard; maybe Bill Paxton, who portrayed a wimp in 'Aliens,' but turned into a bad-ass character...(So he may not count)...

Others that come to mind:

-Arliss Howard as Richard Ludlow in 'Jurassic Park 2'
-Paul Riser as Carter Burke in the aforementioned 'Aliens'

Wesley Crusher.

Baltar from nuBSG.

Every single Twilight Zone character played by Burgess Meredith.

Hayden Christensen.

Baltar from TOS BSG. Heck, his cowardliness was so well known and predictable, Cain used it in a strategy to attack multiple Cylon Base Stars at once.

Yes, when I put the nuBSG Baltar on my list, I'm surprised that didn't immediately make me think of TOS BSG's Baltar.

Speaking of TOS BSG, should we put that one Cylon who worked closely with Baltar and had the light-brite head on the list? He was a real wuss of a robot.

Well, not Hayden Christensen, but definitely Anakin Skywalker from the pre-quel films.

I mean, come on...

Anakin became Darth Vader because he wasn't approved to be a Jedi Knight? (Because he had a hissy fit?)

Someone needed to take a belt to that boy....

He needed discipline...i.e. a thorough ass-whoopin' to knock some sense into him, and put his butt in line...

No, I don't think he's a wuss. Smart-ass, yes, but he never showed himself to be a coward. Just very British.

:D

Not all of them. He was pretty wimpy in "Time Enough at Last" & "Mr. Dingle the Strong." However, he was Lucifer himself in "Printer's Devil" and he showed a great deal of moral courage standing up to that evil government in "The Obsolete Man."

Billy, the original Blue Ranger from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, is your stereotypical wimpy nerd. As the show went on, he eventually toughened up. But in the early episodes, he was absolutely pathetic. And his non-Morphed fighting style in the SNES video game is absolutely laughable. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Pyl5d3ORHA check out minute marker 2:52 for an example of Billy's punching style.)

Speaking of Power Rangers, Alpha-5 & Alpha-6 were classic wussy robots in the tradition of C-3PO.

Tanis & Kraven were two seriously cowardly weasels in the Underworld movies. I love it in the original movie when Lucian puts Kraven in his place. "I suppose it never occurred to you that you might actually have to bleed to pull off this little coup." And when 99% of stupid villains would have spared Kraven's life thinking, "You may be useful," Markus did the smart thing by ripping his freaking head off!

So long as I'm listing pathetic, cowardly henchmen, I'd be remiss if I didn't include Starscream from Transformers.

Dr. Rodney McKay on Stargate Atlantis. He'll come through at the last minute with some piece of brilliance. But prior to the 11th hour, he's a very obnoxious wuss. He complains all the time. And have you ever seen him fire a gun?! His form is absolutely terrible and completely unsuited to an explorer who is frequently put into combat situations.

Okay, in the other thread we are talking about assholes; now we are going the other way. Which characters, men/women, are some of scifi/fantasy biggest whimps of all kind. When the chips are down they are just whimpy. Here is my short list;

1. Jean-Luc Picard. Sorry folks, but to me, he is whimpy.
No way. You're wimpy for spelling it like "whimpy." :rommie: Picard's kicked the asses of numerous Klingons. If anybody from TNG is wimpy, it's Barclay.

Lucifer. TOS-BSG was not very subtle in their Bible references.

Wimps:

Carter Burke, definitely.

Zachary Smith from Lost in Space (the series; I don't think movie Smith qualifies)

Fitzhugh from "Land of the Giants"

Telford from "Stargate Universe"

Eli from "Stargate Universe" until he punches Chloe and tells her to bugger off.

Any male character in a Kim Stanley Robinson novel.
