SciFi ENT marathon Feb. 3

I think keating grew into his role by Season 4. Season 3 did sidetrack him a bit with that silly 'pissing match' with Heyes, but by Season 4 his development was coming along nicely. I think the Section 31 would have made him.
Yes, I thought the section 31 stuff was pretty good. I have nothing against Keating the actor - I just think he was the wrong choice for a security and weapons type.

Bakula to me was just micast from the start and just grew basically worse as the seasons went on.
Indeed, I think the biggest surprise for me was exactly how unfit for the role he actually was. While never enamored of the Ent concept, when I heard they got bakula I thought "at least they're doing something right" but it turned out not to be the case. Bakula is better at "nice/sensitive guys".

I agree about connor, he was the most charasmatic out of the cast. The good ole boy was a bit annoying, but it got better when they dropped that in Season 3 and 4.
True. I agree with you there.

I think Keating did a great job. Making those stiff, stoic characters likeable is a real challenge. He could have easily gotten lost in the background (like Travis). If the show had gone seven seasons Malcolm could have developed in so many ways. There was so much potential there. (BTW, it didn't really hit me until seeing the real Dominic at a convention -- talk about polar opposites! :rommie:)

I'm torn by Bakula. I LOVED him in Quantum Leap and he was the reason I started watching Enterprise in the first place. I was SO excited when I read he would be the very first Captain. He is an excellent actor, but you're right, his forte is nice/sensitive guys.

A HUGE part of the problem was that the writing for Archer was all over the map. Some consistency PLEASE!!!! His backstory should have been thought- out better as well. That would have helped in writing him.

I was inadvertently stuck at home yesterday when a friend cancelled on me, so I got to watch a lot of the ENT marathon on Sci-Fi. Caught parts or all of eight or nine episodes, including the Mirror Universe two-parter. Normally I wouldn't hang around the house on a Sunday and watch that many episodes of a marathon in a row, but I didn't really have anything else to do(sadly :p).

Despite everything I still like the Reed character in particular, as Hoshi's sis said, I thought the section 31 arc was good and, had it had time to draw itself out, could've been a highlight if for example they made Reed go through a "prodigal son" sort of story.

Yeah the backstory thing is a big problem with Ent IMO. I'm not sure if they had a direction for the series or even an extensive series bible but it just doesn't show. Coto tried to do what he could and you can feel a little more direction but at that point TPTB had already used up all the credit they had between Voyager and much of the first two seasons of Ent and I think people just weren't interested a shame because Ent sort of grew on me and I think it could've become even better despite some of its inherent flaws.
