Here's a thread that will either make you laugh or cry. Can you think of a movie in the sci fi, fantasy or space gerne that made you cry? Serious or sarcastic answers welcome.:wah::nyah: I have three I can think of right now. Bicentenial man(near the end when robin williams character dies). LOTR(when frodo and company leave middle earth) and of course when Spock dies in the Wrath of Khan. On a sarcastic note, Star Trek 5 the final frontier, Battlefield Earth and Waterworld.

The ending of KING KONG (all versions).

And, yeah, the opening scenes of the new STAR TREK, when George Kirk sacrifices himself.

LOTR made me cry...because.it.just.would.not.end.

My eyes have welled up during movies, but never actually cried in any movie I've seen so far. The only sci-fi movie that comes to mind is The Fountain. I remember that I found the end quite moving.

My Lord..

E.T... a tear actually came down out of one eye at the end...

Damn Speilberg..playin with my emotions like playin a piano

I saw LOTR:FOTR about eight times in theater and I cried every time Gandalf died, even though I knew he didn't really die :p

TWOK, obviously.
LOTR- TTT, when Arwen has has her flash-forward to Aragorn's tomb
LOTR-ROTK Annie Lennox's Into The West
Harry Potter POA, just one of the lines Sirius has, first time I saw it. Wouldn't mean anything to anyone else, or watching it at another time.

Hm. I'm not sure whether I've rewatched POA since becoming familiar with the later works. I could see the Harry-Sirius discussions taking on a different, sadder aspect when you know how it's going to end.

The Fountain - There are many cry inducing scenes but the most powerful one is when Izzi Dies. The raw emotion and anger combine to be a powerful water works inducing scene.

TWOK, naturally.

"Of all the souls I have encountered in my travels his was the most..." *lip wobble* "... human."

Besides that, Moon got me when Sam is
out in the rover and gets through to his now teenaged daughter.

Also, because it is technically a fantasy, the ending scene of Field of Dreams.

E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial is an obvious choice. Say what you want about Spielberg, but he's a master of emotional manipulation, and he's firing on all cylinders at the end of that one.

Pan's Labyrinth, the real world scenes, not the fantasy sequences.

The final farewells in Lord of the Rings.

Gattaca wrung a tear or two, come to think of it.

Does fist pumping at the end of The Truman Show count?

The Iron Giant, without fail every time. "...Superman" just makes me wibble uncontrollably.

The Shawshank Redemption and Toy Story 3 are the only other two films to make me cry, but those aren't really Sci Fi.

E.T. easily tops this. I think it gets me going more than any other movie.

Other good ones are Soylent Green and A.I. Artificial Intellience (Spielberg again.)

The ending of The Iron Giant gets me every time.

E.T If you dont shed aleast one tear, you have a black and cold heart.

and i think this counts, because it does fit into fantasy , The Green Mile.
