Schematics made with Vance's toolkit

Hey Vance, been meaning to ask. Why no Excelsior love in your toolkit? The only parts from it I saw were the nacelles.

Well, there was always ships to do and I've been debating if I'm going to take Jaynz into the 2280s and up at all. The Excelsior herself would be a good capstone on Jaynz, but all the TNG and beyond stuff get to the wizards and magic of Treknology, and I don't want to focus there.

And come to think of it, where is the toolkit on your site? I can't find it.

The old kit and galleries are down. New stuff is being moved to www.jaynz.info

Oh, and all of the image links for the ships seem to be broken.

See above.

Agreed on the TNG era parts, but Excelsior is still old school enough in my opinion.

Yea, that's where I was. still can't find it.

See above.
Example:

No image of the ship. broken link. Seems like all of the entries off your table of contents have the image links broken.

Or are you still in the moving process and I should be patient?

Or are you still in the moving process and I should be patient?

I've never met a patient fan... of anything. :)

The images are in the galleries. Once I get a few more done, I'm going to start moving the tech articles to new PDF guides. (Actually, I should probably just suck it up and get the first one out of the barn. I'm just triple-checking everything so I don't get burnt right away later.)

I have made several new Toolkits based on Vance's idea, they include:

-Ambassador class
-Excelsior class I & II
-Galaxy class
-Nebula class
-Constellation class
-Sovereign class
and odds and end parts from various ships, from all eras.

There are seven in all, and they should be up at Cygnus X-1 within the week.

I have made them in the .jpeg format, as well as layered .psd format for quicker construction.

I would like to thank Vance for the inspiration, and idea. Simply Brilliant.

However, when you say your designs are copyrighted? Does that mean that you are the designer of the Star Trek ships? I was curious about the post where you won't allow people to cut apart your designs (such as the Soyuz) and then use the parts for their own creations.

Did you create all of these designs yourself (saucers, nacelles, hulls, torpedo decks, phaser banks, struts & supports, bridges, etc...) or is it your personal drawing of them that is copyrighted?

I wanted to make sure I wasn't violating any laws by cutting up some pictures, you just never know nowadays who you might be offending. ;)

If you are the original designer of these Star ships, my hats off to you sir, your star ships have inspired me since childhood.

I own the copyright on all my drawings even if the ship designs belong to someone else. (There are quite a few of my own designs on there, but the galleries show who made the original works.)

Anyway, the drawings are 'derivative work' as far as Trademarked IP, but the copyrights are mine. Yes, I'm aware that this gets confusing.

Just because I've given out the toolkits for free doesn't mean that I've abdicated my rights. Again, I know this is confusing for most people. From my view, though, all I'm really saying is "give some props, yo!"

That's what I thought, and understandably so.

I do paint work for MSFS and run into this when someone modifies my work. I just kind of had to throw my hands up in the end. The internet proved too big to find them all.

Anyway, thanks for the wonderful idea, and I hope that I haven't violated anything with the kits I made. I mainly just cut apart random blueprints that I could find that would work, and modified a few for some unique parts, or to fill in what was behind another piece.

I wish I would have found this forum first to seek a more authoritative opinion on what I was doing. If anything I've made (when it appears) goes against any copyrights, please go easy on me, and I won't do it again.

I kind of got caught up in the excitement while making them.

Very nice :) :techman:

Question for Sean McCormick - Sean, I noticed that on most of your schematics, you give credit to a Dirk Jansen. Is that a pseudonym/real name/someone else? I'm confused...

No, that is my real name. My nick here is the pseudeonym, it is the name of an NPC Admiral, i thought up for an RPG campaign, that never actually took of. When choosing it, i actually contemplated the fact, that it could be seen as my real name and weither i should put that guys rank in it to make its status clear, since Trek forums usually use starfleet ranks as indicator for post count, i decided gainst it.

Here are two ships I did with Vance's Toolkit. I also colored them.

...and an update after a very long time:

i found the components, i used on the Congess too modern compared to the Constitutions, so i worked up some more primitive looking parts:

Good to see your back to making ship Schematics again :) :techman:

Here are better pics of the two ships I posted earlier and a couple more.

I did a little stretching here, fudging there and of course I added color. :vulcan:
