Scenes After Voyager's Return - What would you add?

They didn't even need a full episode. A 10 minute montage would have had as much impact. The ending we got was a bit underwhelming.

Grandpa Paris with Tom, B'elanna and Miral would have been a must for me. Harry and his parents, Janeway and her golden retriever, Chuckles & Seven having a moment, Tuvok getting his mind-meld.
Please no Chakotay-Seven crap.

I would rather add a happy ending between Janeway and Chakotay to my previous list.

Don't you mean Naomi Wildman? She was the smart one.

Nah, Naomi is Captain's Assistant. Just like she wanted.

Except for the admiral's debrief, most of what I came up with could be handled by a final captain's log. Janeway voice overs, and we see scenes: Sek melds with Tuvok while his wife looks on. Harry hugs his mom. Admiral Paris holds Miral while Tom and B'Elanna look on. At the end, Janeway leaves the bridge, and the credits roll. So a final episode would have been cool, but a few minutes could have provided closure.

It depends on how you set the rules of the exercise. If you're assuming that everything prior to Voyager's return is canon, including the 7/C ship, then you have to give some closure to it. If you're allowed to extend your alterations further back, I think most of us would gladly erase the pairing from history.

Sometimes, I wonder how the writers could screw up so badly. Then I remember that these are people who couldn't even figure out that an ensign is supposed to make lieutenant, and I lower my expectations accordingly.

The Carey family questioning Janeway why her future self couldn't have time travelled back a few weeks earlier and saved his life.

Alternatively, Janeway starts to apologize about this to Mrs. Carrey, only for the Mrs. to cut her off with "Oh it's alright, all Joe ever did anyway as drink n' gamble."

 • Seven of Nine accepting a position on DS9, where she'll fit in with all the angsty misfits, and find a bestie and mentor in Ezri Dax (who, in addition to being a counselor--which Seven could use--also knows a bit about having a mixed identity and past lives and guilt).
 • Naomi meeting her father
 • B'Elanna and Tom naming Miral onscreen. I know it's common knowledge now, but it used to drive me crazy that the baby's name was never said onscreen.
 • A trial for the Maquis (with the declaration of "time served" in the Delta Quadrant)
 • A rematch between Harry Kim and Quark

Scenario is pretty simple... Voyager is back home, with one episode to go. The last 43 minutes of the journey are a one-episode series finale all about the crew reacting to their return. What scenes would you consider essential for this episode?

You may assume that certain redundant scenes in "Endgame" were deleted or modified to compensate for actually having a real ending.

Here are mine, not in order of importance.

1. A Paris family reunion. Owen Paris shakes hands with his son. He meets his daughter-in-law and granddaughter.

2. Tuvok and Janeway share a last farewell before he heads off to the Alpha Quadrant for the mind meld that will save him. The two longtime friends and colleagues share their feelings, and celebrate a job well done.

3. This one could be done during Janeway's final captain's log. It's the one promotion scene they'd just HAVE to show. A beaming Naomi Wildman stands on a box and pins lieutenant insignia to her mother's collar. Also, the two are shown to be reunited with Naomi's father. Janeway's voice over states: "... long awaited promotions have been awarded, families are united, lives are resumed." Something like that, anyway.

4. Some form of closure with Seven and Chakotay. While I never liked the pairing, it was there, and it needed to be acknowledged. Of course, if I could go back further, I would just delete it.

5. A debrief scene late in the episode with Janeway and Adm. Paris, where she discusses Tom's progress, the events of Endgame, and possibly her future as an admiral. If it were possible to delete 7/Chakotay, I would have Janeway meet Chakotay for dinner afterward. They could go off together, the episode could end, and viewers would make up their own minds.

6. A reunion between Harry and his parents. While no ceremony need be shown, he should be wearing lieutenant insignia as well.

7. Also during Janeway's monologue, mention one of the less happy aspects of their return. Starfleet has been made aware of Equinox's bad behavior. The Equinox's five surviving crew are being taken into custody by Starfleet security.

That's my thoughts. Yours?
Chakotay would round up his Maquis crew and maybe some Starfleet crew to find and aid the weaken Maquis who remain in the Dzone. Search for MIA Maquis through out the Starfleet portion of the galaxy and hopefully re-unite and find some healing and solace.

I'd back that on one condition: one of those missing Maquis needs to be Tom Riker. His story needed resolving.

The end could be handled, I suppose, with a mere captain's log. I present two versions of how it could happen. In one, the basic rules are followed: nothing is changed but the ending. In the other, I bend the rules and eradicate the much derided 7/Chakotay pairing. Taking advantage of the dual versions, I also present two variations of the Kim and Wildman families being back together.

In general, I present a scene, followed by Janeway's voice over.

VERSION ALPHA - Chakotay/Seven Pairing Retained

Voyager's bridge. Janeways walks onto it, looks around, and begins making her final statement.

JANEWAY: "Captain's log, stardate 55992.7... this will be Voyager's last log entry for quite some time..."

External shot: Voyager is sliding slowly into a docking berth at a shipyard. Shuttles and other maintainence craft flock busily around her, ready to start repairs, and reverse engineer some Borg tech.

J: "After seven years of relentless enemy attacks and makeshift repairs, the ship will finally receive a much-needed refit in spacedock."

The transporter room. Uniformed Voyager crew are congregating there. Many of them have assorted duffle bags and suitcases. The ones waiting for their turn are exchanging handshakes and hugs. The Doctor is prominently among them. One group, standing on the pad, dematerializes.

J: "This means that our family, and we were a family, despite our conflicts and our dysfunctional members, is finally going their separate ways."

Owen Paris meets Tom Paris. They shake hands, then maybe embrace. Tom turns to B'Elanna. She shakes hands with Owen, then shows little Miral to him. The family is back together, with hopes of reconciliation.

J: "For most of us, this transition is a joyful one. The former Maquis have all been awarded pardons, in recognition of their years of faithful service."

The crew lounge. Naomi Wildman stands on a wooden box and pins a lieutenant's rank pip on her mother's collar. Those present applaud. Among them is a K'tarian, who embraces Samantha.

J: "Long-awaited promotions have finally been awarded."

Harry Kim, also sporting lieutenant insignia, is walking along with his bag over his shoulder when he sees his parents. He hurries over to them and hugs them.

J: "Families, seperated by time and distance, are finally back together."

Cut to a house on Vulcan. Tuvok is undergoing a mind meld with Sek, his son, while his wife looks on.

J: "Lives, put on hold for years, can finally resume... or begin anew."

Seven's quarters. Seven is packing her bag. She hesitates, obviously nervous and uncertain about what's next. Chakotay shows up, also carrying his bag. He speaks to Seven, and they leave the room together.

J: "For a few, feelings are more mixed. For some, this ship was the only home they knew, its crew the only family."

Voyager's corridors. The Equinox crew are being escorted off the ship by armed Starfleet security. None of them look happy.

J: "And sadly, some of our number now have to answer for the choices they made."

Various places on Voyager go to standby mode. The warp core goes offline. The lights go dark. Lights in some corridors dim.

J: "And I cannot help but think of my counterpart, and the many other shipmates of ours who didn't make it home."

Janeway is still standing on the bridge, finishing her recording.

J: "However, for now, I celebrate. Voyager is home, and that's what really matters. Janeway out."

Janeway falls silent. She smiles and looks about the bridge one last time, and then she exits into the turbolift alone. The doors close behind her. End credits.

VERSION BETA - Chakotay/Seven Pairing Deleted

J: "Long-awaited promotions have finally been awarded."

Samantha Wildman, also sporting lieutenant insignia, and Naomi are standing together in a corridor on the station. A K'tarian male, with horns like Naomi's but a little more prominent than hers, approaches them both. Naomi smiles in her adorable way and steps forward and offers her hand to her father.

He gestures toward the turbolift, and she heads for it. They exit into the lift together, and the doors close behind them. End credits.

So... while I think a full episode would have been cool, even a couple minutes added onto Endgame could have been made to work.

I'm now imagining that voice over, South Park's Woodland Critter Christmas style:
'And so the crew did it; to home they headed back. It was the best homecoming for the crew in red and yellow-black. And they lived long and happy lives with their loved ones ever after. Except for Harry Kim, who died of space AIDS one day before his promotion came through. <Harry heard cursing in the background>'

Maybe a scene at the end that was a parallel to the first set in 2404, with Voyager flying over the Golden Gate Bridge this time the narrator saying it is the 29th(?) anniversary of Voyager returning, with a grey haired Admiral Janeway looking out her apartment window but this time smiling.

(Despite Icheb being dead and Seven of Nine 'off the rails')

One day later, the timeline resets itself. Because that's what happens whenever you promote Harry (Non Sequitur, Before and After, Timeless [?], Endgame, and Online).

Not only that, but it resets itself all the way to the end of "Caretaker Part II"

And in the new timeline, instead of leaving the Ocampa at the mercy of the Kazon, who still have guns, Janeway has Voyager stay around and protect them. As part of this, the EMH helps teach them about developing their inherent mental powers.

Six months later, they are not only self sufficient, they have sufficient control over their gifts that they are able to basically do what Kes did in "The Gift", only a lot further. Voyager winds up only a few light years from Earth.

...only for it to turn out to be a nightmarish Parallel Universe Earth where the Nazis won WW II.

But because the Nazis won WWII, Earth was technologically stunted, and all the other races steered clear. They're still using laser weapons and chemical powered personal arms. Janeway uses precision phaser fire to wipe out a few Nazi military centers, then declares herself Empress Janeway, and sets about restoring freedom and democracy.

I would have a scene of Voyager in space dock being repaired, with the workers wondering how it kept from falling apart...

Have a much older Riker standing on the bridge as the Earth pops up on the viewscreen. Then...

"I knew I'd find you here." -Deanna Troi

"Computer, freeze program." - Riker

"I thought you finished these adventures last month." -Troi

"I finished the last time Neelix was on board. But I wanted to see just how conflicted Janeway was before she made her last decisions while captain of Voyager" - Riker

"Oh. The new incident that you've been stressed about." - Troi

"Yeah. But after seeing Janeway make her decision, I know what I need to do. It's amazing how helpful these historical simulations help my big dilemmas." - Riker

Troi smiles, and kisses her Imzadi. As they both get ready to walk toward the turbolift...

"Computer... end program." - Riker
