In any case, I think that with these extraterrestrial beverages, words like "ale," "whiskey" and "wine" are sort of rough renderings of whatever the original product might actually be, rather than an accurate literal description... much like how various traditional East Asian beverages are described in English as "rice wine," and very heavy types of what is technically beer are described as "barley wine." These are really contradictions in terms since the production processes don't involve products of grapevines at all.

I don't know about that, historically monasteries around the world spend a lot of time making various types of booze, and often high-end stuff.
