Save Vulcan

No...
Considering the weight internet petitions carry, I hope (though I know I'm deluding myself) you don't really think this will have any impact on JJ Abrams or what Paramount chooses to do.

Though I would love for people who react in this manner to cite the script they've read cause I want to take a look.

I mean, don't you think this is an overreaction, to a rumored plot point that you have no context to appreciate it in or how it effects the story and its ultimate outcome?

Of course people would have done this when they learned Spock was dying in Wrath of Khan if there had been an internet... look how that turned out.

huh?

We're now accepting as fact this story line?

Seemed half-baked rumor to me.

And if it makes for a good story, I'm fine with it.

It's fiction, folks.

"Moriarty" as he is called, is a pretty reliable source. Just look at his review of the Nemesis script. It was spot on months before the thing came out. I don't think the petition is stating this is a 'for sure' thing, just that's it's not a good idea to throw out the future Vulcan timeline in order to make Spock more of the tortured-loner, lost soul variety. Personally, I'd rather not see it destroyed unless it is in the current timeline (i.e. not a rebooted 23rd century). Just my opinion.

And what reason do have for presuming Vulcan will stay blown-up? By the end of the film I'm sure it will in some form be restored if this is even real.

I want a film that challenges everything, the timeline, assumptions of Trek history and who these people are or were... whatever rip it all apart and put it back together Trek's sacred cow needs to be slaughtered.

Star Trek canon isn't holy writ, however oddly though much like holy writ can be re-purposed for the needs of the religion and its continued relevancy... depending of the desires of those who decree such things.

Look, we are all fucking dorks here. All of us.

We may fall into different slots on the fucking dork spectrum, but none of has has much wiggle room to judge or point fingers.

But it's still funny when we do, so please continue doing it. :bolian:

It seems unlikely to me that such a huge plot point would be out this far in advance. I'm guessing this is either some fanboy's delusion or a joke.

Ahem.

I am not fucking anybody right now.

If you know any attractive - hell, presentable - dorks in the Washington Metropolitan area who might be interested, please PM me with contact info.

In any event, is this a first? I mean, is this really the first absurd fan petition to be seriously posted in connection with this film? I can't think of an earlier one, off the top of my head, and if that's the case I think Internet Dorkdom should be given a little round of applause for its restraint up until this point.

This is a joke thread started by a random person who registered today just to make a stray post.

Given that it's harmless, it stays open.

Ah the Internet... if someone creates a petition site, there will be a petition for everything. I'm sure the "bring back Blake" fans from Blakes7 have one. Heck, I bet Bob Hope has a petition to get his wife to like him.

Oh, ahem... I am not a 'dork'.

Just because they registered today it must be a joke?

I'm going to assume that you have other evidence.

I said who the post was started by not that it was joke because of who they were.

I think it's a joke because it's too stupid to be taken seriously. If there were a reliable source stating that JJ intended to destroy Vulcan then I would assume the protest was genuine.

They erased Pluto as a planet and I didn't hear you wailing then, ds9fan1701. Now I'm supposed to get up in arms over the destruction of Vulcan? Cripes... I've only been there once.
