Wasn't meant as a joke. I have no problem with people taking it that way though. I hope the rumor isn't true. But if it does turn out to be true (as all of Ain't It Cool's Nemesis posts did) then Star Trek continuity will all go to hell when the film comes out.

If this petition thing is actually a joke, then I take back my earlier comments happily.

But I still predict that this is the sort of thing that's going to happen a lot over the next year. The two main triggers will be: a. the casting of Kirk, coupled with the ultimate, final, announcement that Shatner won't be in the film; and b. if the film version of the TOS Enterprise contains any major redesigned elements that break continuity with the original TV series and the production team continues to maintain that the prequel is supposed to fit within canon.

Oh, and I guess c. - if they really DO plan to do something like blow up Vulcan.
