Sarpeidon technology vs. Iconian technology

Spock actually said the ruins were "On the order of ten thousand centuries old."

That's a million years; of course, still nowhere near the age of our solar system. Radiometric dating in the 1920s and 1930s indicated that the solar system was at least a couple billion years old. And the numbers got more accurate in the next few decades after that.

Spock could have been making a very conservative estimate. It wouldn't be the only time he wasn't quite correct about something.

Maybe Spock couldn't date the structures themselves, but rather was able to date events that collapsed the structures.

Likely he could not date the guardian due to the time distortion. Or maybe the Guardian did it deliberately to mask it's origins?

It's the ruins of Gallifrey and that's the "Eye of Harmony" or possibly the "Untempered Schism" with an AI interface. :nyah:

The ruins around it could be much younger that the Guardian it's self. I can imagine many civilizations rising and falling in the Guardian's lifetime.
But it seems like somebody among those many civilizations standing in the vicinity of the giant stone donut would have asked "What is it?" like Kirk did.

...The question essentially becomes, why does the Guardian lie about its virginity?

It's not as if it were unskilled in turning the English phrase. And I sort of doubt the Guardian is speaking Guardianese which the UT of the heroes then mangles into an unintended lie; the Guardian seems to understand the heroes well enough, not just responding to their spoken words but "reading" them in some sort of greater depth so that it can put Earth in the crosshairs without prompting.

What if that number one rule of the civilizations was, "Don't talk to the Donut," something that had been passed down in their mythologies?
