News 'Sandman' TV Series a Go at Netflix

Season 1 covered the first two graphic novel collections - Preludes and Nocturnes (Issues 1-8) and The Doll's House (Issues 9-16) - of the series.
Except "Tales in the Sand" (issue 9), which will probably be incorporated into the Season of Mists arc next season. Plus two issues from Dream Country in the bonus episode: "Calliope" (17) and "A Dream of a Thousand Cats" (18).

I was going off information directly from Neal, so thanks for that clarification.

I did see a reference to books plural, so it looks like Season 2 will be covering multiple graphic novels too, but it didn't specify how many.
I enjoyed Season 1 and I'm definitely looking forward to more.

Do we need to hope for the entire run to complete in order to get some sort of story closure, or no?

I would say yes, but if the show has two seasons I am going to guess that Netflix will at least include a deal to end the story either with a full or truncated third season. Four seasons would be exactly right to tell the whole story.

14 books - so we need 7 seasons at the current pace? Not likely on Netflix lol

Yeah, 7 seasons is not going to happen--but not all the stand alone stories need to be told and World's End probably won't happen. The Kindly Ones will probably be reduced to a half season, when it should be a full season along with the epilogue--but I will be happy if the show is given enough notice that an ending can happen, even if we don't get all the tales along the way.

I don't know where you're getting 14 from. There are 10 collections from the original run. Three of those are strictly one-shots (either completely on their own or with some thematic connection like months or the World's End pub). Like theenglish said, four seasons would be the right length to cover the original run depending on how many of the shorts are adapted (and in what manner).

Everything after that, such as Overture, The High Cost of Living, The Time of Your Life, The Dream Hunters, The Endless Nights, and a few others, would be gravy but not essential. Even though I really, really want to see all five of those adapted.

Yup, that's what I've been hoping for. I could see Overture being about four episodes with Dream's The Endless Nights entry acting as a prologue. I could see the rest of the season filling out with The High Cost of Living, The Time of Your Life, The Dream Hunters, and the remaining The Endless Nights entries (although I don't think Despair's or Destiny's stories would translate with any real substance given the nature of their shorts).

At least, that's what I hope what happens. That's far down the road...
