^Tom Cruise already IS a comic book character all on his own.

Anyway, my main takeaway is that if they're going to tip Stewart appearing as Professor Xavier in the damn trailer then they must have something WAY more surprising up their sleeves.

Yeah - with Cruise i could see a blink and you'll miss it cameo but Stewart's Professor X is a cornerstone of Marvel movies, just not yet in the MCU. If that was indeed Patrick Stewart as Prof. X it could be the first brick laid down on the road to X-Men and Mutants in general.

Wouldn't put it past Marvel and Feige, it's how they operate. They start slow and drop hints, then itÄs one big blowout appearance before they go all in and with full force. If the Illuminati will be a plot element there could be even more surprises that the trailers don't reveal such as Reed Richards, which in turn would make Strange 2 even more so a pivotal movie of the multiverse story arc.

The only reason the Raimi Spider-Man and Amazing Spider-Man movies were linked to the MCU is because No Way Home was driven by Sony.

Yes, I know it's the obvious assumption to make, but there's still a good chance he's playing someone else until it's officially confirmed.

It has long been rumored that Professor X was going to show up in this movie. Having Stewart show up in the trailer seems to confirm those rumors.

Imagine if Magneto was in this, and had a scene with Wanda.

Frankly, anything is possible now.

Yeah, Marvel Studios getting actors from other Marvel based movies to reprise their roles is totally implausible!

I mean yes, this is multiverse shenanigans; literally anything could be plausible up to and including "he's also another variant Loki", but THAT actor playing THAT character in THAT kind of scene makes a whole lot of sense.

Seriously though, regardless of who he is and is not playing, the fact remains that the INTENT of including him in that trailer is clearly to say "hey kids, it's Professor X!" So the essential point stands: if they're tipping that NOW, it means there's probably way more surprising elements in play.

And just because Patrick Stewart does a voice-over for that shot in the trailer, it doesn't necessarily mean that Stewart will voice that dialogue in the film; I'm thinking of the V for Vendetta trailer where Tim Pigott-Smith does a voiceover of dialogue that's spoken by Hugo Weaving in the film (Evie's interrogation scene). In short, it's not outside the realm of possibility that Marvel paid Stewart to voice dialogue in the trailer that will never be heard in the film, for a film he might not even be a part of.

That sure reads like they're making the same assumptions as everyone else. I don't see where Marvel has actually confirmed that is Professor X, and I don't know who else they'd hire him to play, but I don't see where it's been definitively declared.

There is absolutely nothing in that linked article that actually confirms people's speculations about Patrick Stewart playing Prof. X based on the trailer.

The presence of Patrick's voice in the trailer isn't confirmation of him playing Prof. X; confirmation of that idea would be a direct statement from either Kevin Feige or Patrick Stewart himself unequivocally stating that Prof. X is in the film and that Patrick is playing him.
