Raimi Suggests Spidey 4 Villain?


Spider-Man director has plans for sequel baddie.

UK, January 13, 2009 - Sam Raimi told Empire magazine that he already has an idea for the villain in Spider-Man 4.

He said: "I like it in the Marvel comics when Spider-Man fights Morbius... He's really cool. A vampire! I like that combination of superhero plus supernatural."

In the comics, Morbius wasn't actually a vampire in the supernatural sense; instead he was a Nobel-prize winning biochemist who (unwisely) attempted to cure his rare blood disease with a combination of vampire bats and electroshock therapy -- giving him "vampiric" characteristics. The character became an important part of the Marvel universe, doing battle with Spidey, the Human Torch and the X-Men.

The film is currently at the script-writing stage, with the last news on the project being that Pulitzer-prize winning author David Lindsey-Abaire had been signed on to co-write the sequel.

Raimi said way back in October that filming would possibly get under way in 2010, with the director currently putting the finishing touches to horror Drag Me to Hell.

I'm over Rami. S1 and S2 are OK enough, S3 is retched and he completely botched Venom.

Unless S4 is going to use The Lizard I'm disinterested.
 
So Spider-man is going fight a vampire?

They should make it a Spider-man vs Blade movie. I heard Snipes could use the paycheck right now. :)

He's raking in all of the "Art of War 2: Betrayal" cash!
 
Snipes is going to be in jail for a while, otherwise he would've been one of the cast members for Stallone's The Expendables.

An example of him was made because of his "fame", I guess the judge is a big watcher of DTV movies.
 
Morbius needs to be in the next Blade movie if there is one. Unless they adapt the Neogenetics storyline from the Fox Spider-Man animated series where Michael Morbius is a student of Doc Conners and rival to Peter and injects himself with a serum obtained from Peter's blood sample and gets hit with that neogenetic recombinator then I wouldn't mind. Perhaps this will lead into Conners becoming the Lizard.
 
Morbius? No thank you. I'd prefer to see Lizard, Vulture, or Kraven before Morbius. He's just not that interesting a villain.

They should do Spider-Man vs. Twilight. I mean, he's already gone emo...
 
Seeing as Amazing Spider-Man #100 was the first Spider-Man comic I ever bought, I am not as opposed to Morbius over a more classic villain than most here. Could this mean that we may see Spidey running around with six arms as he did in the comic? It would be rather interesting to see, given the movie Spider-Man's natural webbing. Would he be able to fire webs from all six arms?
 
Yeah, they should have used Morbius in any three of the Blade films. Using him here seems oddly out of context despite the character's origins.
 
I'd rather they reboot the franchise and let Sam Raimi go back to what he excels at -- making cult classics. He's just not cut out for big budget flicks, and this is coming from a huge fan of his.
 
Morbius as a villain sounds like a terrible idea. However if you throw in Peter becoming the Man-Spider... and the Lizard... it might work. I'm thinking of the 90s toon second season, of course.
 
After Spidey 3 I'm completely agnostic towards a fourth. I'll see it, but I'll go in with zero expectations and not be particularly excited. S3 was such a massive disappointment that I've kindof stopped caring about movie Peter.

Bleh. Three was a mess.And Mobius sounds like a completely uninteresting villain. He's effectively a flying vampire. We've seen it before.
