Sam is Buffy! (Supernatural) **SPOILERS**

I just realized something. Sam’s S6 arc is similiar to Buffy’s in Season Six of her show. At the end of both of their fifth seasons, Sam and Buffy went somewhere (Buffy through death, Sam through a hole in Hell) only to come back later on changed. They both became emotionally distant and in some ways, numb because of the experiences they underwent prior to their return. I think over the course of the season, Sam will regain his former self through a series of events like Buffy did eventually. So we may have put up with cold Sam for a while.

With the last episode and all the talk of using souls as currency, I'm kind of thinking somebody whom we may or may not have seen already has claim on his soul and Sam just doesn't know it. Somebody like Raphael. I think Grandpappy Cambell is working for Raphael. Having Sams soul could just be used as a leverage thing later on.

Similar to what happened to Buffy, sure but not quite the same. You could say same thing happened to Cordelia too. She came back and was not quite herself either. =T

So, are you saying that all Sam needs is a little between the sheets action with Spike?

If Supernatural S6=Buffy S6, then we're only three episodes away from the musicial! I can already see Dean singing "Born to be Wild" while driving the Impala down the interstate!

I didn't say both seasons were completely the same. But same in terms of emotional arcs for Sam and Buffy.

Sam is Buff!

Oh wait that isn't what this thread is about.

But like Buffy there will be a small part of fandom that will want to see Sam sleep with a "Vampire".

This comparison is much too depressing for me. Let's hope Supernatural doesn't fall quite that low on the entertainment scale.

You mean Supernatural rises up to the level where it's worthy to kiss Buffy's delectable feet?;)

Don't get me wrong. Buffy the Vampire Slayer was a great show, but season six was about as depressing as anything on tv (not that anything could beat Grey's Anatomy--which can only be watched if you're willing to laugh at every plot-line as being the latest in the game of "How can I make this more depressing?" writers game over at ABC).

Sorry as much as I love Buffy the shows are so different. Buffy's is camp, almost a comedy. With over the top dialogue, over the top acting, and is so not grounded into reality. It's did have some great dialogue, but often done in a manner that would be truly unrealistic for the setting.

Supernatural is far more a dramatic piece then Buffy with better actualized characters, more realistic handling of its subject matter and in general better actors across the board. Production work is also far stronger.

And for myself I was always pick more dramatic pieces. As witnessed by my near universal dislike of SN "humor" episodes.

Buffy being the superior standard by which other shows are rated is a bit of a stretch. Though Buffy is a good show, there are much better shows out there like Six Feet Under, the Sopranos, Breaking Bad, the Shield, and Angel.

And believe me, big fan of Angel and Six Feet Under

THe two programs SN gets compared to the most often are Buffy (and besides the SN element it really makes no sense as the tone of the show is considerable different from Buffy) and the X-Files. I can actually understand the X-Files comparison more as tonally the shows are closer (the SN does use more humor, especially thinks to Dean), though the X-Files is a little more sedate. I wish we had the budget of the X-Files (boy that show managed some great production values, oh well thats what you get for being watched by 15 million plus at times). Its also follows the basic format of the X-Files so many major mythic episodes surrounded by more stand alone. Though SN does a much better job of threading their arc material (especially how it impacts the characters) through each episode. And I find SN a little more consistent. X-Files could be all over the place going from great to crap. I don't think SN sinks as low, but by the same I also don't think it hits as many highs as the X-Files did. Also being shows that are driven by two leads. My preference for SN over X-Files (certainly isn't production), but the more personal nature of SN. Not that the X-Files didn't get personal, it did. But not as often.
