Saints Row: The Third

I finished SR1 last week and now I'm playing SR2 again. It's much better than I remember it. I think when I played it before I was too focused on comparing it to GTA rather than judging it on its own merits. Last time I focused on beating the story and viewed the side-activities as obstacles in the way of the main missions, but this time I'm doing all the activities and even the diversions such as the fire-truck missions in order to unlock new vehicles. I'll probably pick up SR3 when I'm done, as long as I'm not burned out on these games by the time I'm finished SR2. Or maybe I'll hint about wanting it for Christmas. ;)

Finally started playing it for Christmas. This game is so much fun. I can't stop playing it! Did you buy stores in the last game to generate income? I'm playing a nude hot chick with pixelated goodies. That is hilarious  I love racing up to someone to tackle them for a human shield or kick into the car to steal it. So much fun! I've done five or so story missions so far and they've all been really fun and different.

Got it for Xmas from my mother-in-law, along with Red Dead Redemption GOTY Edition (i.e. including Undead Nightmare)... So I guess I'll be playing it soon!

I nearly fell off my seat when I was driving through the airport and saw an A-10 Warthog just sitting there, begging to be taken for a spin...

And then I got caught up playing tank mayhem....

I was confused at what happened with Johnny Gat, he got stabbed in the gut with a knife, then took over the plane while I jumped out, why do people assume he's dead? No body. I'm still in the early stages though.

I too feel a great sadness for the loss of that lovable psychopath. Here's to Johnny!

Grabbing a Tornado (much easier this time!) as soon as you've unlocked the penthouse with the helipad makes wiping out the Gang Operations you find a lot more fun, if a little too easy!

what is a Tornado and how do you grab it?

The game's name for an AH-64 Apache. Basically, go to the airport and grab a "Thompson" (Bell 47-G) which is a fast and nippy chopper. Fly to the military base island, which will get you an automatic four-shield wanted rating (with gunships after you, hence using a fast and nippy machine to dodge them). You'll see several helipads - four standalone pads will spawn Blackhawks, but the one on the roof of the central building will have a Tornado parked on it. (you can't see it from the ground, so this is why you come in a chopper to collect it!) so just land on the roof next to it, jump out of the Thompson, run across to the Tornado and hop in. Now fly it the hell back you your helipad at the penthouse, and store it in your garage...

Now when you want to wipe out a Gang Operation, a swift dive in and a couple of rockets will take care of it - which is handy if it's a Deckers group with one of those freaky teleporting girls who zip around like The Flash, cos they're right bastards to put down if you're on foot.

Yeah I'm not sure if I've managed to kill one of those girls yet. Maybe on the mayhem mission when I have infinite grenades and I'm just throwing them around me constantly

I much prefer the F-69 VTOL. It's not even fair when I take on gang ops. It's like swatting flies!

thanks for the tip! I now have an attack chopper! Sweet! Gonna be a lot more fun transporting to places now haha :D

I flew over the military island before but didn't see any choppers on the pads so I didn't investigate further. Turns out it only appears when you actually land on the rooftop.

Yeah, the draw-distances are still as dodgy as ever for this series - I think they actually do it deliberately by this point, as part of the comedy

I think the city looks really good. I haven't played 1-2 in awhile but I remember the graphics not looking as good in those. It doesn't look nigh-photo-realistic the way GTA4 did, but it looks pretty good.

If you do make sure to have a homie with you in the chopper, it will help with respect...

Oh yeah I always bring backup.

Which reminds me, in SR2 you always had homies wandering around neighborhoods you control. In SR3 they seem to only be in your cribs! I miss having the purple dots wandering around to call on at need!
