Good maybe Sylvester McCoy can play the role now since he was up for ti originally.
Anyway, TORN has some suggestions for actors who could play Bilbo and, since it is now inevitable, my vote would go DEFINITELY to Martin Freeman from "The(real)Office". He has the exact whimsical little face that would suit a hobbit and the quizzical nature and innocence.
I think he would be GREAT.
The film makes it clear that Bilbo and Gandalf are "very old friends" so he is presumably just referring to the last time he saw him, which is probably long after the events of "The Hobbit". That would just indicate that Bilbo is aging unnaturally slowly, but that he looks the same as he always did.
So Chris Pine as Bilbo?
(although, even there, Lucas fucked up because how did Obi Wan age 45 years in about 20? And don't give me that "He's living on a desert planet" bullshit).
Actually, even in Lucas' original drafts in the early 70's, he describes Obi Wan as being aged beyond his years from being in the extreme climate.
Draft 1: GENERAL LUKE SKYWALKER: He is a large man, apparently in his early sixties, but actually much older. Everyone senses the aura of power that radiates from this great warrior. Here is a leader: a JEDI general. He looks weary, but is still a magnificent looking warrior. His face, cracked and weathered by exotic climates, is set off by a close silver beard, and dark, penetrating eyes.
Draft 2: THE STARKILLER: The Starkiller is a large man, but shriveled and bent by an incalculable number of years. His face, cracked and weathered by exotic climates, is set off by a long silver beard and penetrating gray-blue eyes.
Draft 3: BEN KENOBI: ...a shabby old desert rat of a man, who appears to be at least seventy years old. His ancient leathery face, cracked and weathered by exotic climates, is set off by dark, penetrating eyes, and a scraggly white beard.
Draft 4 (Shooting Script): BEN KENOBI: ...a shabby old desert rat of a man appears and leans over Luke. His ancient leathery face, cracked and weathered by exotic climates is set off by dark, penetrating eyes and a scraggly white beard.
Simon Pegg should play Bilbo.
Hey, a fansite (possibly ours, even) got Zach Quinto cast as Spock so why not Pegg as Bilbo?

I think there were other factors for Quinto?

Naturally yes. But the idea got into his head in the first place because a friend e-mailed him a post (from somewhere, maybe here) of good ideas for Spock casting and he was at the top of most of them.

I've never seen McCoy's acting, but I think he has the right look for the part.

Uh, that's actually pretty brilliant. Make it so!

Perhaps Michael Sheen would fit the bill-bo.

I could definitely see him playing a Hobbit - good idea.
I guess I just wanted continuity between the films. This is not like the PT and the OT where there is a reason why Obi Wan is played by two different actors(although, even there, Lucas fucked up because how did Obi Wan age 45 years in about 20? And don't give me that "He's living on a desert planet" bullshit).
That is going to suck majorly.
