1 for me, plus I'm a Cheers fan so there's that. Also as good a place as any to say, Wrath of Khan is my favorite Star Trek film! Bold take I know.

Perhaps, it was the symbolism of her sitting in the center seat and giving orders that really mattered in that context.
That's actually a really good take on it. I never really liked the idea that Kirk would be "nervous" that Saavik would screw up the drydock departure, because Sulu etc. were actually at the controls, and would not let anything happen.

I like the idea much better that it was Kirk's reaction to having a younger generation sitting in key positions (his Chair!!) on the Enterprise bridge. Thinking about how Saavik is a Lt. in command training and doing exactly what he, a long-tenured Admiral, longed to be doing was probably the more troubling thing for Kirk.

[From Cerritos airlock] Where's Ensign Casey with the cleaning gear? That Pakled did something unspeakable in here!

It's all about Alley, because she has that star quality that makes her pop out on screen. The camera loves some actors and doesn't others.
Was that directed at Wally Cox or Kenneth McMillan?? I always preferred character acting over star quality....not that the two couldn't positively overlap.
Kirstie Alley is no longer available to play the role. Therefore, it's Robin Curtis or nobody.
Fairuza Balk all the way.

I preferred Alley back in the day, but these days I have grown to prefer Curtis.
I like Robin Curtis just fine (and she seems to be a great person IRL as well), but her Saavik character was just kinda there compared to Alley's in Khan. I really wish they would have gotten one or the other back for the Valeris role in ST VI and just made the character Saavik instead.

I'm glad the character is Valeris. There's too much necessary explanation for why Saavik would turn against Spock, given that she (allegedly) is the mother of his child. It would bog down the film and make it boring, and more fans than you would think wouldn't accept it, no matter what the explanation is.
