Last few thoughts based on the rewatch of last week's ep before tonight's...

Claire and the Angels - I think I'm overthinking it. I don't think she's anything to do with Clara, it's just the Moffat ontological paradox because that's what the Angels do. When she meets the Doctor in the street, she says "We'll meet in the past... if I'm right." So I think that once she got sent to the past, she wrote herself a letter telling her future self what to expect. That's why she knew how to recognise the Doctor, that the Angels were coming for her, and how to deal with them by not blinking. She knew it had to happen because it had already happened, that's why she had to pluck up her courage telling herself "You have to go home now, Claire." Of course once she got there the fear kicked in and she tried to escape it anyway, but it was inevitable. I don't think it's any more complicated than that. The only remaining question is why the Angels targeted her specifically - were they sending her back in time to a certain time and place for a reason? Could the Angels actually be trying to help in their own way?

The Flux - we actually saw it destroy the other planets in our own solar system before reaching Earth. So clearly that can't be a thing that they can leave as having really happened, which means that a lot of the destruction being caused by the Flux will have to get undone by the end of the season. Maybe that's part of what the Angels are trying to do, with the time travelling to the past.

Perception filter haha

That's the beauty of it. If he were the next doctor his transition to spouting techno babble and epic speeches would be amazing
Actually, if we really take that quote about the tardis at face value, he said a mate of his had one, which would rather make him a potential companion.

I rewatched this episode right before today's episode and for what it's worth to the people who thought Swarm's name was never mentioned on screen, it was actually stated by the lead prison guard right at the beginning of that scene. I was pretty sure I had heard it somewhere in the episode before the credits but I couldn't be sure.

Azure's name, however, wasn't stated.

If it happened to her past self, her future self would, by definition, already know! No note needed

Clearly, Claire has already been travelling in time. She wasn't even sure it was the past. She thought it was the past. But implies it could've been the future. That suggests she's been time travelling. And she already knew the Doctor. Sooo . . .

Live +7 Days Rating: 5.78 Million, adding an extra 1.35 million and putting it at 9th place for the week. (6th in terms of individual shows.)

If that's not just a one-off from people being out for Halloween it'll leave the series in a good place for its run.

Finally managed to watch this, and I have to say, one of Chibnall's better efforts, with real, propulsive energy. The fantastic effects and dynamic direction help a lot with that - this feels epic in a way I'm not sure Doctor Who ever has, with the possible exception of The Day of the Doctor.

I agree with those concerned about how much was thrown at us; it seems a lot to tie together in a relatively short time, and I'm unconvinced Chibnall is capable of it. Also, the makeup, while initially impressive, was a little stiff, especially in the case of Karvanista. He's a fun character though, and Swarm is actually a decently effective villain, certainly very well acted, if cleaving to the Chibnall grotesque visage mould. Dan left me a little cold, though; not enough to him, yet.

In fact, that's my biggest issue/concern: there's something hollow about this, something lacking at the core, expressed mostly through slightly underwhelming dialogue and characterisation, and how it's not really lingering in the mind. The substance isn't quite matching up to the presentation. Still, as many others have noted, this is only the beginning.

7/10

I was going to rate this one lower but it gets a 7 for the production. Found it too noisy and bombastic. Too shouty.

I did like that the TARDIS provided a mattress for them to land on. So it can materialize objects when needed, did not know the TARDIS could just magic things out of nowhere.

Wasn't really enthused with the story as I felt it jumped around far too much for my liking, and ooh weird space anomaly, did they pull that out of page 34434553352q3224566 of the writers handbook? /s

It was OK not great, had lots and lots of moving parts, did like the dog aliens. Fancy that an alien species who is tied to humanity, oh come on at least that's original but still not enough to grab me. So how exactly is capturing every human saving them? Where do they take them after that? Can't keep them locked in cages forever, and ever.

Is Claire related to Clara, found that a little too coincidental.

Still good but not great.
