Thanks for explaining. I thought it was a puzzle you'd made for us

I was expecting to rotate and superimpose to reveal a picture/icon of some kind, but that didn't work.

Then I noticed the two lines of alternating light and dark pixels between the corners to the squares, and how in general the dark pixels tend to form longer unbroken lines than the light coloured pixels, but I couldn't work out what it all meant.

Is there a face in there or is that just by mind wanting to put the randomness to some order?

There may be a face. There may not.

As a clue, looking around the edges of the image, do you see there is left-right symmetry? But the symmetry is not everywhere perfect. What could this mean?

QR Code! (identifiable by the three corner 'pieces')

You scan it with your mobile device and it translates the code (also known as a 2-D barcode) into a text string -usually a URL.

As all weird things this started in Japan; so much simpler to just use the camera to catch something than having to write down the URL (or e-mail address or whatever) people have their facebook page on their T-shirt in this manner !

Or on their building, in at least one case.

A biologist, a statistician, a mathematician and a computer scientist are on a photo-safari in Africa.

I heard a joke somewhat like this once.

An engineer, a physicist, and an economist are shipwrecked on a small desert isle. They're not concerned, at first, because they recover numerous cans of food and drink from the wreck. But then, to their horror, they realize that they have no can opener.

After pondering this problem for a while, the engineer says: "I know! Let's find a sharp stone we can use to gouge holes in the cans."

So they look around, but they can't find a suitable stone--just sand.

At this point, the physicist says: "I know! Let's throw them at the ground. The impact may be sufficient to burst them open."

So they try this, but they can't throw them hard enough.

At this point, the economist says: "I know! Let's assume we have a can opener!"
