S.S. Enterprise Google Sketchup

I cannot for the life of me understand how people get such good results with Sketchup, and I can't even make anything but a frakkin' box... I mean, I can't believe I suck THAT much at anything 3D... but your work looks so nice and smooth... like something out of Blender, rather than Sketchup. Very nice stuff.

Gee- thanks! I'm planning to get a new computer soon, so that will mean I can dedicate my 2 year old craptacular Acer (never buy an Acer- they suck and my monitor crapped out already!) to my Sketchup stuff... I hope that dumping everything but this and a web browser will help so I can make my curves smoother! Yay!

I was just looking at my wordpress starship section and found the progression in proficiency so neat to see. I want to do more, like lighting, but my attempts at Kerkythia (or whatever it's called), and Podium, to be a collosal failure!

Here’s a little more work on the engines. There’s a little more colour then I’d prefer, but it helps make things stand out against other things.

The red pipes coming from the warp field generator is an energy overflow recovery distributer. That will be shunted down to the ship to batteries for further utilization.

You can see that there are two decks within the nacelle. This is to facilitate access to large reactor and other engine support equipment. I still need to add a ladder from the two levels, and an access tube to the nacelle strut.

I also need to add some computer terminals…

Better and better--I was thinking Keldesh because the STARFLEET PROTOTYPES manual made mention of a Korolov class, and I thought the name would fit--also, its the name of the ship Cameron used for his Titanic projects. A TNG and SG-A ships were named Korolov as it stood. This has a Daedalus kind of feel to it despite the saucer--a true follow on.

BTW the www.federationreference.com site is now up, so you might want to submit it to them as your design looks very good. A perfect Light Cruiser.

Beautiful work. I really like the retro look of the bridge. I agree it almost looks like the first ship they tried out a saucer-shaped primary hull on after the Daedalus--just to make sure it wouldn't fall off as soon as they went to warp, mind.

Wow, I don't come to TrekBBS as much these days...great work with the internals Patrickivan, I hoped you'd come back to this.:)
Nice art and engineering.

(Been lurking at Resin Illuminati, man I'd love for some of these designs like this to be realized in actual model form...:))

I decided to change the paint scheme. I like the large panelled look I worked out here. It’s similar to ST:E, without the stupid “aztec” pattern. I wanted to make the lines more faint, but haven’t been able to do so. That said, it’s a small ship, and I worked the size of the panels until they seemed reasonable.

One of the problems I have with the stupid aztec patterns is that it suggests thousands of tiny hull plates and this always seemed structurally redicullous to me.

A larger version is on my wordpress as usual.

Just a wee bit of work in the engine. Added a ladder and computer interface terminal.

…and a little shuttle I made for her. It’s about 2×5 metres. It seats 6 and is about as comfortable as a mini-van. No walking around in them! The shuttle bay is wide enough for a tight 360, and there’s a repair bay and access to storage behind that big grey door in the back.
