Ryan Reynolds is Connor Macleod of Clan Macleod... WTF?

a poor choice in my opinion, he seems a little too clean-cut and nice for the role - I would have gone for someone like Colin Farrell or an even better choice, Michael Fassbender

Farrell would be good. He could probably manage the accent quite well, and he has that brooding quality that Connor had. Good choice, but a pity that in reality, they'll most likely go with Reynolds.

Why does he have to have a brooding quality?
Why does a reboot have to mean a Chris Lambert's Connor replica?

The Highlander concept has an infinite number possibilities. Is Connor anything like Duncan or Methos or Amanda or Fitz or Ramirez? The new Highlander can be using any one of those plus more as their template, we have no clue.

Reynolds can be perfect for what they want in the story.

Reynolds has a very "now" personality. So as the modern day Connor he might work. As the younger Highlander from the 16th Century he might not.

Don't tell me. They'll skip all the stuff around it and go straight to the part about aliens?

He doesn't have to be like Lambert (I'd say it's probably best he isn't like him).

As you say, the new character could be anything - but if that's the case, the movie should be called 'Immortal' or something like that. 'Highlander' wasn't the name given to the immortal warriors, it applied to McLeod because he came from the Highlands of Scotland. So if they want to re-use that title, the lead actor should be able to convince as a Scot.

Planet Zeist deserves a bigger place in the franchise.

YOU TAKE THAT BACK! :scream:

Seriously though, Reynolds couldn't act his way out of a paper bag. He plays himself in every movie I've seen him in.

I'd expect him to counter Kurgan's brutal attacks with snarky one-liners.

The only movie where I've seen him play a different character is Amityville Horror, which was actually pretty good. I'm not saying Reynolds can't play someone different, but it's just very rare.

First, I agree, if the movie is going to be about The Highlander Connor McLeod, Ryan Reynolds is probably not appropriate casting, it should be someone more appropriately Scottish.

However, I think many of you are being unfair to his acting talents. In Amityville Horror, he did a fantastic job playing the creepy psychopath, and did a great job slowly transitioning between the sane family man character at the beginning of the movie, and the later creppy killer later in the movie. Additionally, though I haven't seen it, he did a movie awhile back where he was buried alive, that he won accolades and awards for how chilling his performance was. So, he definitely does have the acting chops for dramatic roles, without the snarky one-liner comedy personality.

If a movie is written to play to his comedy strenghts/personality, you can't fault the actor for playing the character that is written, but, he is defiitely capable of playing beyond that range.
