Spoilers Russell T. Davies' Second Turn as Doctor Who Showrunner

Eccleston through Whittaker only, it seems. No Tennant 2.0 / Gatwa (DisneyWho). That makes sense. No doubt Disney+ has the exclusive rights to the stuff they co-produced, at least for awhile longer anyway.

Will be interesting to see if they get the Christmas Special.

And Disney are not above selling the rights to things they don't want to show ("Nautilus" being one example) so picking up those episodes is not impossible. In fact, we might end up with a situation where TWB premieres there instead, since Disney clearly don't want to show it.

AMC+ didn't really occur to me as a possibility, but they do have quite a few genre show, although like @bdub76 said, they're mostly horror. I do find a little funny that it's going up there now, after BBC America, which is owned by AMC, has completely separated itself from the British BBC. I believe it used to be owned 50/50 by AMC and the Beeb, but AMC bought the entire thing from the BBC a few years ago and now own it 100%.

For now, you can watch new Doctor Who on Hoopla for free with a library card. And classic Doctor Who is on both BritBox and its YouTube channel in the US.

Yeah, I watched the first Matt Smith season back a month or two ago on Hoopla, and I've been working my way through Classic Who on Britbox for at least a couple years now. I started with the beginning of Jon Pertwee's run, and I'm now in the middle of Terror of The Zygons, the second serial of Tom Baker's second season.
Once I finish either Vikings: Valhalla Season 3 or The Witcher Season 4 both of which I'm currently watching, I'll probably start Matt Smith's second season.

I've been meaning to binge Matt Smith. I binged David not that long ago.

So Davies said nothing about DW at all at the talk he was giving tonight, even though it was on the promotion for it as one of the things he'd be talking about.

You'd want to believe that they wouldn't f' up on actor availability so badly but then I think back to when Jenna Coleman was the only person contracted to appear in the 50th anniversary special at one point.

Or it's just...

Idle Internet speculation.

Nothing about the production situation post-"The Reality War" lends itself to having anyone under contract. Gatwa wanted out, and RTD threw a "Hail Mary" pass with Piper he could pull together in a day, thinking this would buy him time until he could figure out what came next.

I have real doubts that Piper would be a long-term solution for the series. I don't believe she'd want the workload. Fitting a one-off special into her schedule in the autumn, though, might be more doable. Or it might not.

I really think that the BBC either needs to go big or go home. And by "go big," I mean this: if the BBC intends to carry on with a series in 2027, then pull an Eccleston, launch the 27th Doctor, a thousand years after "The Reality War" in the Doctor's timeline, in the Christmas special, and carry on with that Doctor in the 2027 series. Make a break with the recent-ish past, relaunch the series with a soft reboot.

I would vastly prefer that to some of the fanwank spectacular ideas with Piper and/or Tennant that have been suggested. A fanwanky episode as the first Doctor Who story in twenty months doesn't seem healthy and raises difficult questions about who this show is even for.

maybe he was still under a speical contract simular to the people in the mcu where in they are not allowed to say anything about the future mcu stuff to prevent spoilers and leaks and at the same time how the mcu people are also kinda not allowed to take pics about anything mcu also to prevent spoilers and leaks

in other words maybe davies is on a contract where he not can not say anything about both the upcoming and future episodes and seasons of doctor who 2005 aka doctor who 2023 to prevent spoilers and leaks
