Spoilers Russell T. Davies Returns to Doctor Who as New Showrunner

How much more stressful is tv production today compared to a like decade ago, especially with fewer episodes, considering tv back in 2015 also had tons of cgi and camera angles and reshoots? The only difference, episode count aside, that I can think of is that the new stuff was framed with 9:16 aspect ratio for social media as much as it was for 16:9 (hence a lot of empty space scenes with key characters placed side-by-side, which would be easier to frame for the camera as they're focusing on what's in the middle (9:16). )

Also, will the next Doctor be 8?

You know what bothers about that?
People have loved the Doctor Who ‘Brand’.

No. No they haven’t. It isn’t a brand.

I feel sorry for the young folk saying ‘At least it’s better than 1989’ when it is basically, in fact, exactly like 1989 as far as the show itself is concerned. To the point of there even being rumours the Tardis set has been taken down. (Which is exactly how the last hiatus began. Sort of.)

What shows have the lead actor(s) doing constant running around like that?

I mean lots of them? Several MCU shows such as The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Hawkeye spring to mind. Eddie Redmayne and Lashana Lynch did a whole lot of rushing about in The Day of the Jackal Last year.

And I think the idea that the Doctor somehow runs around more than other fictional characters is something of a fallacy. As I've already started, there's plenty of episodes in the last two seasons where Ncuti hasn't had an awful lot to do at all.

Poppy is the next Doctor.

Doctor Who is currently, surprisingly Doctor-less. You’ve worked on the series in the past; where would you like to see it go in future?

It’s been back for 20 years, which is an awfully long  time. Almost as long as its original run. That’s pretty spectacular. So maybe it’s time for another rest. I really don’t know. I only know that I still love the show with all my heart

It's a tough one. Part of me really agrees with him and part of me vehemently disagrees!

If it is to rest then I think that break needs planning, it shouldn't just be a vague "Dr Who is taking a break" notion, we don't want to be waiting another 15+ years for the series to come back. Not least because I'll be knocking on 70!

Maybe five years is a reasonable gap, I mean what was the TVM? 6/7 years after the show ended the first time, and while it didn't do very well in the States, my understanding was always that a decent number of people in the UK watched it (happy to be corrected on this). If the BBC can get their Cbeebies show up and running in the next year or so you're potentially priming a lot of kids who'll be 8 or 9 when the parent show comes back, an inbuild new audience to supplement those who'll remember it from this era and those who've been with it since the classic era.

Ideally, and selfishly, I don't want it to go away though.

I'm more and more convinced there's a story beyond his departure. Not a full-on Eccleston situation but something happened.

He went from talking about shooting S3 this year to them having to reshoot the ending to get rid of him in the span of a few weeks.

Bad ratings. I don't think it's more complicated than that. Which I honestly don't think he is to broke up about. I feel like he has wanted to move on and do movies more than anything, anyways.
