Spoilers Russell T. Davies Returns to Doctor Who as New Showrunner

Oh, I don't think they'll ignore it. When I say "placeholder," I just mean not a lead Doctor there for at least a season. I'm sure they'll at least have her in a special. I think her being the TARDIS is the odds on favorite right now. But we'll see.

The plus side of the hiatus is that it gives them time to figure out what they want to do!
The TARDIS energy pops from Companion to Companion. Each episode is a new "Doctor TARDIS" Get your guesses in now for the other seven lucky Companions. I'll let the BBC know where to send the check/cheque

If Billie was a 'placeholder', there would have been no reason to credit her at all.
Wuh? Even by your standards, that's some hokey horseshit.
There is such a thing as an uncredited appearance or cameo, which using Billie as a 'placeholder' could have qualified as.
Typically when actors aren't credited for an appearance, it's by their request. I see no reason why Billie Piper would agree to do this and request not to be credited. Which is a moot point anyway, as the very fact she was credited proves she didn't make such a request.

You truly have a weird way of looking at the world.

Oh, I used that word again. Am I using "weird" correctly? Actually, I really don't care.

I could not find any publicly available information about whether or not Billie is a member of one of the UK's actors' unions, which means there's no way to definitively say that her appearance could not have in fact gone uncredited.

You don’t get to work if you don’t have an Equity card. But you can’t get an Equity card unless you have worked…

The "closed shop" was em... closed in 1990. It's good to be a trade union member but it is no longer a requirement.

That’s good to know. In the late nineties and early-2k’s the misinformation was still going out to young prospective actors, and there was still very much the system I described in place — we just didn’t know it was no longer actually true. Tut tut. In fact, I didn’t know it was no longer true until you told me here.
Well, I wouldn’t have liked it anyway. XD

Get ready to put on your tinfoil hats.

There is a lot of speculation on X that "Andrew" is RTD himself. Apparently his deceased husband was called Andrew and for the leaker to get so much right, including reshoots and Billie Piper (who only a handful of people knew about) makes it seem it is someone very high up in production or RTD himself. RTD did apparently confirm he put out some leaks as red hearings too, so maybe he put out real stuff in an attempt to generate buzz about a show in trouble

Nothing would surprise me less. The only thing that kind of goes again t’s it is that “Andrew” thought what was done to Omega was rubbish. Though… even then I could believe it. Knowing he sometimes has to do a bit even he knows is rubbish.

I've seen speculation that Piper is the Bad Wolf and not the Doctor. I guess we"ll know by Christmas 2027? 28?
That's the problem. We've no clue. We know nothing about anything. Is there gonna be an X-Mas special this year? The next? And if Piper's not the Doctor, who will be the next one? Is the BBC even looking to have one?

That's the thing about all this. I genuinely am coming to the conclusion, that I would much rather Ncuti had left without a regeneration after series 2, letting it play out as it was meant to, so that you could at least return to it with the established cast in place. Because whether Ncuti stayed or left, the show would still be in front of a seemingly unknown hiatus period.

FWIW, I don't understand why there had to be a regeneration. An open-ended "Survival"-esque ending is perfectly fine! And starting the next era, whenever that is, in media res like "An Unearthly Child" or "Rose" is also perfectly fine!

Worst case, you need Ncuti for a day and a scene to do a regen. That’s it, then you’re off and running.

YouTubers posting fresh regeneration montage videos helps generate free buzz? It may sound stupid, but I wouldn't be too shocked if regeneration montage videos was discussed while making the decision.

Or if they really needed to, they could just have the new Doctor spend a minute or so dressed as Ncuti Gatwa before regenerating, like Colin Baker to Sylvester McCoy. Of course, if the next Doctor is white, it could get problematic having them done up to look like Gatwa...

I guess Davies felt that he "had to" do a regeneration scene because it was Gatwa's last episode and then because he had to do that regeneration, he couldn't do that regeneration without showing who Gatwa would regenerate to, or else the finale would be perceived as "The End."

I'm not saying I agree with it, I'm just saying I kind of understand why he did it.

...although The Wormhole's cynical take about YouTubers is probably closer to the truth, unfortunately.

But Survival was different because the classic series was cancelled with no intention of bring it it back.Worst case, you

You'd never get Gatwa back for a regeneration scene though - because of availablity and price.

He's done his and the next actor can do there bit.

just like from Troughton to Pertwee (who hadn't be cast at the time The War Games was recorded).
