Spoilers Russell T. Davies Returns to Doctor Who as New Showrunner

There's no way that level of leaks was on purpose and I don't see at all how that tracks with how RTD has operated in the past.

Pure nonsense.

This isn’t RTD in the past. Chunks of his writing contradict things he said as recently as *last season* so all bets are off on what’s going on in his head.

I know.

My point is this: If she appeared solely in lieu of having an open-ended Regeneration, there would have been no reason for her to receive a formal credit.
There are obligations for crediting performers. Even the one off guest stars are credited. She appeared. She'll receive credit. Having been credited doesn't mean she's the next permanent Doctor. You're leaping to unwarranted conclusions there.

I'm not even sure why I'm trying to explain this to you . . .

I think the actors union and her agents might disagree. ;)

I could not find any publicly available information about whether or not Billie is a member of one of the UK's actors' unions, which means there's no way to definitively say that her appearance could not have in fact gone uncredited.

Has she ever worked in an uncredited manner before?

Someone's take on what happened...

“Billie once changed the whole of television, back in 2005,” Davies suggested while speaking to BBC, “and now she’s done it again. It’s an honor and a hoot to welcome her back to the TARDIS, but quite how and why and who is a story yet to be told.” All this combined seems to imply that Billie Piper is playing someone other than the Doctor, perhaps someone connected to her former Bad Wolf identityGatwa’s Doctor did regenerate via the Heart of the TARDIS. It’s currently unclear when Doctor Who will return to explain Billie Piper’s return.

Now I am even more convinced she will be playing the Tardis. Unless the BBC decides to just ignore it.
Oh, I don't think they'll ignore it. When I say "placeholder," I just mean not a lead Doctor there for at least a season. I'm sure they'll at least have her in a special. I think her being the TARDIS is the odds on favorite right now. But we'll see.

The plus side of the hiatus is that it gives them time to figure out what they want to do!
