Russell T. Davies Returns to Doctor Who as New Showrunner

Oh, I didn't realize that many of them came from different planet and/or eras. The only ones I knew of for sure Susan, Leela, K9 and the Romanas. I've episodes with a few of the other companions, but I wasn't familiar with their origins.
I forgot about Kamelion, but I've never seen any episode with him.

Don't forget Jack Harkness was from the future and he was a companion for a short bit. Also is RIver Song considered a companion?

Though as has been pointed out before when Jack and River got prominent roles in the franchise, their backstories were adjusted so that they have lived on modern Earth for long enough that they could be considered contemporary people anyway.

I forgot about Jack, but I didn't think River actually traveled with the Doctor regularly at any point. I've only watched everything after Tennant was the 10th Doctor once, so my memory of those seasons isn't very good.

FWIW, I think of River as a companion, and she's shown herself familiar enough with how to fly the TARDIS that I feel she did travel regularly with the Doctor at an earlier point in her life, probably in the two hundred year gap in the eleventh Doctor's life.

Information comes from someone who correctly leaked 60th anniversary spoilers last year...he's shown up on GB for the first time since November

-Ncuti isn't going anywhere
-Series 3 still being planned to air 2026
-IF Gatwa decides to leave, there will be one or two specials shot for 2026
-War Between will be a week-long five-day event, at least that's what the BBC want to do with it. Not sure if Disney feel the same.
-Considerably 'darker' than Nu Who
-Sea Devils have been redesigned
-If the series is successful, it might get a second shot, though it is described as quite standalone/self-contained and will need a whole different story if it's renewed

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you can tell different stories about UNIT with or even without the Sea Devils. They don't have to keep the title the same.

If they want name continuity, retroactively rename this series "The UNIT Files: The War Between The Land And The Sea" and then do the same for each storyline going forward.

Yeah, something like that sounds like a good idea to me. If the plan is for it to focus on the UNIT team, then that is a pretty open ended premise that they could do tons of different things with.
