Russell T. Davies Returns to Doctor Who as New Showrunner

Good news from BBC Studios annual report that Doctor Who is still it's top drama brand and one of its top brands overall. Be interesting to see what effect, if any, the Bad Wolf deal has on that, though we won't see the impact for two years.

Offered with no claims of veracity but this is allegedly part of the TARDIS set around the console under construction.

A pity but unsurprising considering he said he would stick around as long as Chris and Jodie. I know some people haven't been a fan of his music but I've absolutely loved it.

I just hope we get someone new and not a return to Murray Gold.

I can understand why people were tired of Gold's music, but I think a lot of that was more down to the editors reusing the same tracks. I wouldn't mind having him back, although I'd also be happy with someone fresh.

It's not just reusing of the same tracks. Most of his music was loud and bombastic and overwhelmed the scenes. His softer works were pretty good but those were the exception to the rule.

Davies uses Murray Gold on almost all his shows— Wizards vs. Aliens and Banana are the only things Gold hasn’t scored for Davies in the past 20 years— so I’m pretty confident he’ll being doing New New Who as well. I do hope his style changes for the Gatwa era, though, as part of an overall fresh start.

My sense of pattern recognition must be flawed because I'm failing to see what you have perceived.

The white cylinder shaped structure at the top left of the picture with what looks like a white open door.....if course it could be a simple cupboard were they store stuff, but it seems to have been just painted as is evidence to the white paint line on the floor around it, might mean something, might mean nothing. lol

I like Murray Gold, and he did some great music during his time on Doctor Who, but it was clear by the end of the Moffat/Capaldi era that he was spent. So I'd have no objections to getting someone new for the music.

Certainly. Day of the Doctor is the most glaring example of this, in that Gold actually did do a lot of new tunes for the special, but in the finished production we just largely reused tunes from prior seasons/episodes. One of the more perplexing examples, a new piece of music was done specifically for the Doctor's conversation with the Curator, but in the special itself they decided to use River Song's theme in that scene. The music that was done for that scene was later used in the scene where Clara has a phone conversation with the Eleventh Doctor in Deep Breath.

Oh yeah. They got their money's worth out of "The Mad Man with a Box"
