Russell T. Davies Returns to Doctor Who as New Showrunner

Jemma Redgrave was just on "Good Morning Britain" and denied any knowledge of a UNIT spinoff. (Ironically after the presenters introduced her by saying she was about to star in it.)

She also mentioned working with Millie but not Ncuti, which seems odd, but that was when he was shooting more "Sex Education" and they had to use a stand-in before doing his stuff later. So Kate and the Doctor could still meet each other.

'Entertainment Weekly' has a preview of the Specials; though not with any really new information.
Some new photos though.

We live in a world where Ncuti Gatwa is playing a teenager on "Sex Education", so probably best not to think about it too much.

At least it's not "Riverdale" (RIP) with a cast full of 30 somethings pretending to still be 16...

That's okay. We can rename the new Doctor Who show to "Riverdalek" and people will think that's clever! :guffaw:

I like the new Tardis windows.

Looks like the same prop Jodie's had. Same inner phone door with the handle on the wrong side. Blueprints aren't difficult to read so they're probably trolling the audience, what after the whining furore behind both 2005's prop reveal and 2010's. Assuming people noticed and still cared.

Not a lot of news in the new DWM, as they're in the between series period. Location scouting is happening and the non-RTD writers are at work on various drafts of their scripts.

The first and last Specials are broadcast ready but not the mysterious second one. (Lots of effects work?)

The novelisations will include lots of extra material, particularly for the Nobles. (So hopefully including the scenes they weren't able to shoot with Bernard due to his health.)

Bonnie was asked to return by Russell before she was asked to appear in POTD by Chibnall. Which only makes me more convinced that she's in the Specials as well.

Now that is a curious revelation. That makes me think Davies had something quite particular in mind to do with Mel. I wonder what that could be.

One interesting thing about Mel is that she is a walking paradox, since she never met the Doctor for the first time from his point of view.

Now I know the Big Finish story "The Wrong Doctors" sorts that out, but that can't be referred to on TV.

Given he likes soaps, she *might* be Donnas Nan xD
Edit:
Let’s go all in.
Sabalom Glitz is her grandad.
Or… Sabalom Glitz is…Wilf!

Or she's Donna...

dundundun!

That Timelord metacrisis did more than just transfer The Doctor's mind to her. Donna now can regenerate.

Heck in "The End of Time" she demonstrated some sort of defense mechanism. It wouldn't be out of the realm of possibilty.

Let's go completely bonkers and have fans flip tables and couches. Mel then regenerates into Jonna Lumley

Donna/Mel- OH! I'm blonde! I've always wanted to be blonde!

I'll take anything that brings Joanna Lumley onto the show!

...and causing fans to flip tables and couches. ;)

I do recall RTD saying that some of the stuff Chibnall had planned dovetailed into his plans nicely. I'm picturing something along the lines of Chibnal saying he was going to have this meeting of companions at the end of the episode, and RTD saying, "Great! Include Mel!"

That's cool! Mel didn't get the best of scripts after her first story, certainly in season 24 when all she did was scream (then decides to go explore the galaxy with Glitz in the far-flung future for absolutely no reason stated, not even a contrived one, just "Doctor, it's time I should go" - okey dokey then). And her appearing in TPOTD definitely proves she gets back to contemporary-day Earth (hmmm...). Hoping Russell gives her some great material.
