Rush class civilian cutter WIP

In Memoriam
Hey, have been working on this one off and on for the past week, starting to get somewhere with it so I thought I would post a couple images.

I envision this as a civilian design that has been adapted to a variety of uses from cargo delivery to private yacht and even as a military cutter for starfleet. It's about six decks high with a small shuttle bay holding 2 shuttlepods and 1 full size shuttle.

Still a work in progress though I think the major forms are done with the exception of the nacelle struts. I plan to replace those with something , though I am not sure what. Lots of detail to add. The shuttle bay will probably get sliding doors instead of the glove compartment look it has now. I need to add more gangway/platform greebles to the shuttlebay along with airlock doors to the entire ship. Yes, I made matching shuttles. Hey! it's the Lexus of private ships, what can I say?

And yeah, I did blow out the size of the images pretty large for the forum, I'll fix it tomorrow.

Edit: fixed.

That's a great looking design.

If you reworked it a little, it could be an older Tholian design, what with the triangular shape.

It's an interesting design. I certainly think "Tholian" when I see it even if that wasn't your intent.

I'm not too keen on the third nacelle (I'd replace the top one with a sensor/ communications array whatsamathingy to keep the ship balanced).

The struts- I actually kind of like them. They look almost modular. Something that can be easily ripped out and replaced.

The main deflector looks a little large for such a small ship. That said, it looks cool. I like the little antenae? sticking out of the bow as well.

The 'glove compartment' door doesn't bother me much, it looks like it would certainly work. It might be so that the compartment can be easily pressurised for working in or boarding, where the constant leakage from a roller door would make long term pressurisation a pain.

The only bit I dont like is the bussards on the front of the nacelles. You have rectangular nacelles with cylinders jammed in a gap at the front that look like they're slightly too large for the gap. They look rather incongruous when compared to the overall design of the nacelles. I would second PatrickIvan's idea as well, lose the upper nacelle entirely and put something else in it's place.

Same company that designed the Aurora perhaps? :D Also looks a bit like it could be an Andorian design to me.

Yeah, the more I look at it today, the more I don't like the cherry lifesaver on the front of the nacelle. I am not sure about removing the third nacelle. Something fairly large would need to be there to balance the design, but then again, I don't want to make the ship look overtly military.

The original inspiration for this was Zorg's ship from The Fifth Element. I was tired of doing saucers and tubes.

This is awesome... I love the design, but I'm not nuts about the nacelles... I think they could be redesigned.

Listen not to the cries telling a tale of a Triad of Heresy! Keep the third Shaft of Warping, and let not critique strip your ship down to tired convention!

I hath spoken.

May sound like a silly idea, but I get a lot of inspiration for nacelles from pens and markers. Lot's of odd shaped rectangular ones too...

I'm not going to try to convince you about the third nacelle- I get why people like them. And I certainly understand about wanting to try something other then a "saucer and tube"...

I like to see people do civilian and NGO type ships. What about private star liners? People must go on vacations and travel in Star Trek. What do those ships look like?

Sorry- I'm babbling.

Back to your ship.

I like the design, has a nice compact efficient feel to it. I agree with changing the front of the nacelles but keep three, and don't change the damn dish. You mentioned it also being used as a cargo delivery ship, would that entail adding cargo packs to the outside or reworking the interior or do you already have holds imagined inside? I gotta say, once I read cargo, I got a very Planet Express vibe lol, not that there's anything wrong with that.

The current nacelles were actually inspired by John Eaves' sketches for phase pistols. I just took the grip off. I always have a hard time nailing down nacelle designs. I keep trying to come up with unique designs for them since I have the Ent-E look and think the Ent-D candy bars are over used. There were 2 previous designs that I did and already discarded. A 4th (and 5th) may be in the offing.

LordSarvain - Hmmm, I hadn't really thought about cargo packs. I mentioned it being useable as a cargo vessel mainly to accentuate that these ships are custom fitted at time of construction, much like today's large jets. And yeah, I got the Planet Express vibe too, I may well do a version in that livery.

I actually don't think the 1701-D style nacelles are used often enough... too often people like to re-invent them into some overly-complicated new style. What about a variation of the VOY nacelles?

I didn't think Tholian-I thought 37's had developed warp drive and had advanced, keeping a little of the old rocket motif.
