News RUMOR: Whittaker potentially leaving

You know, re: Donna - BF should finally do some What-If audios, and actually have different Doctor-companion combos. Like, Eight-Donna or First-Sarah Jane, or Fourth and Bill. Something like that.

It bothered me the first few times but then I got use to it as one of The Thirteenth Doctor's quirks. Every Doctor has several and not everyone is going to love them all. No big deal to me.

Yeah, I was never too keen on Matt Smith's "Geronimo!" It just seemed like the Beeb was pandering to that ever elusive mainstream American audience. But it wasn't enough to make me want to chuck a brick at my TV.

Would have been very interesting. As much as Tom is my Doctor, I wish there had been some tape showing Bernard doing a rehearsal or reading for the part (like the Bojold as Janeway material). But I doubt the Beeb would have used any of their uber-magical tape for that ;)

Pretty much the same mindset here. Like many other "bloody Yanks", Tom was my first major exposure to DW so he became "my Doctor as well. But I too wonder how Cribbins' screen test went. It was originally the plan to have Pertwee regenerate into an older, slightly addled gentleman, hearkening to Hartnell's portrayal, which was why we were introduced to Harry Sullivan. He was to be the "leg man" for this "older" Doctor, getting the "man of action" while the Doctor brainstormed. Hiring Tom was something of a "left turn" when the creative team had already worked out the dynamic among the characters. Of course, Tom, being rather younger, and playing his part as a younger man demonstrated Harry was not needed as much as originally planned. T'is a shame as Ian Marter made the character a rather likable, affable chap. In the audio commentary for "Genesis of the Daleks" provided by Tom Baker and Liz Sladen, Tom openly lamented the departure of Marter as he thought their 'trio" had the best chemistry during his years on the show.

Interesting regarding the chemistry matter. Putting aside the endless behind the scenes stories over the decades , I guess Tom did not necessarily like the working relationship with everyone else from Louise Jameson-forward (skipping over Lalla Ward for obvious reasons) until his own departure from the series?

"HARRY SULLIVAN IS AN IMBECILE!"

Regardless of the Doctor's opinion in "Revenge of the Cybermen", Harry still strikes me as the kind of guy with whom I'd like to share a pint of bitter at the corner pub. :techman:

Yeah, one gets the impression something changed once Liz Sladen left the show. But, accounts suggest Tom and Ian were friends off set, with Tom tagging along with Ian and his family on holiday. Sorry, I don't have the sources to back that claim, so, make of that what you will.

Yes, Tom and Ian were friends and were even working on a Doctor Who screenplay (I think) when Ian died.

Allons-y grew on me, and Tennant could pull it off. Geronimo I loved from the start, if anything I wish Matt had said it more. Fam though, it's like "Who da man" except in that instance the Doctor immediately said "Yeah not saying that again".

Quite frankly though if Fam was the biggest issue I have with the Chibnall era that would have been great!

The moment Ryan called the police ‘feds’ in episode one, I knew we were going to have lots of ‘talk like the youf’ drama, and that historically has never done well in Who. (Apart from Rose)
Fam is pretty terrible in that regard, partially because they use it wrong (like Brigadier Bambera and shame) and partly because the people using it most are just too old to use it at all. Could have got away with it once (like sylvesters single use of Wicked with Ace) but it became a de-facto ‘repeated meme’ and was awful.
