Rumor of Spock in new movie??

Consider the source and take it with a grain of salt...

Throughout the piece, the CNN gang could barely control their Geekitude. In their final moments of discussion with Mr. Nimoy...unable to restrain themselves any longer...they went there...trumpeting the "new" STAR TREK movie (presumably referring to J.J. Abrams' 2009 picture), and asking if we'd see him "in another STAR TREK movie?"

Without missing a beat, Nimoy replied with the briefest "Umm..." and in no uncertain terms said "We're talking. We're talking."

If Nimoy did say this...what are the implications?

It would be cool to see Spock Prime again. Although, I'm not sure what part he could have beyond a largely pointless "Hey, Young Spock. All's well on New Vucan. Visit soon. Love, Old Spock" cameo.

If he does do it, I'd like something more substantial than Nimoy's "Amber Bell" cameo in Fringe last week!

I agree. I really don't know what role his character would play. I wouldn't mind a cameo by him but it really isn't necessary.

I just read that. I'm happy. I wonder if it's a small role, or he's just "advising" the writers. He did kind of hint a while back that he was, I believe he used the phrase "looking for undiscovered territory." If Kirk is supposed to be unsure of himself, per Chris Pine, it only makes sense.

If I had ten thumbs, they would all be turned up on this one.:techman:

It would be interesting to see how the new Vulcan colony is doing. And I suppose it would make sense to see Spock Prime if we had a visit to the colony.

But IMO, that's the only reason I'd like to see Spock Prime. Not because I don't like Nimoy or anything, far from it. I thought his performance as Spock was as good as always in the last movie, and in itself, I'd love to see him play Spock again.

But they should only put Spock Prime into the new movie with a good reason, not just to show Spock again for the fun of it. That would make it kinda pointless. And I don't like pointless.

And yes, I know my last comment will probably give us a whole shitload of silly hater-comments about how Trek09 was pointless to begin with. Oh well, so be it... if they have nothing better to do.

I haven't found a video or audio clip yet, but Hinman at AirlockAlpha has posted what looks like a transcript of the same interview/exchange that AICN's Merrick is talking about.

Implications? Don't know - maybe none at all. The only thing we can do at this point is wait and see what (if anything) develops.

At one point it seemed set in stone that Nimoy was not going to be in this movie, now that certainty is uncertain. It will be interesting to see what happens if anything.

Merrick over at Ain't it Cool News is saying that an independent source has confirmed to him that Leonard Nimoy will appear in the new film.

If the Enterprise stops at the new Vulcan colony, then Old Spock kind of needs to be there. It'll probably be one scene, which is fine by me. Hope it's true.

I'd love to see him as Spock one more time. I don't care if all he does is approach Kirk and offer him a slusho, I'd be happy. :)

He's going to play Khan.

I thought he said last year that he had retired from acting. Maybe he's doing a voice-over thing sort of like what he did on "The Big Bang Theory" this season. Ohhh, maybe he's the new computer voice. :techman:

I just hope there is no prime Spock DEATH SCENE.

Now that would be truly terrible. Better not be any prime Spock dies in NuSpock's arms crap.

He's there at the end when they retire the Enterprise after a long career. It's last mission is a flyby of New York City.

Oh wait - that was real life.

I read the "We're talking, we're talking" interview. I suspect, with only a little over a year to go before hitting the big screens, that there will be a bazillion rumours floating around. IF, they decide to put Spock prime into this film I sure hope it is more for just window dressing. Knowing Nimoy, though, I suspect that is exactly what they are 'talking' about.
