Actually, I'm laughing at the stupidity of the episode, (which for some stupid reason, I watched again) the movie, and the thought of Spock telling Kirk the best way to beat Khan. Of course, he's got freezer burn this time so it may be easier to defeat "Mighty Whitey." But I will remember next time, not to laugh at anything because.......:shrug:laughing is not funny?

Yup. FWIW there's two things I don't want to see:

    1) Death of Spock Prime. Pointless.

    2) Spock Prime turning into Obi Wan effing Kenobi.

I don't think they need him, either, but Old Spock is around, and I want to see what he's up to. Is he an important player in the reconstruction of the Vulcan civilization, or is he just an old guy living out his days and trying to stay out of the spotlight? Either way, I just want to know how Spock's story ends.

If he dies again due to Khan, That would either be incredibly amazing, or incredibly insulting and stupid. There would be no in between. Tightrope walk!

But if the character of Khan and the Actor Nimoy are in the same movie, magical things could happen. Let's hope...

If it's incredibly insulting and stupid, then so is having Khan as the antagonist in the second film, just like in the original series.

    I guess that leaves "amazing".

I'm amazed at the staggering lack of originality.

    Mission accomplished!

anyone have a feeling this movie will be even more divisive than the 2009 film? trek fans will either adore it or hate it i think.. i guess the same could be said for the 2009 film, but i think some of the *potential* haters were willing to give it more leeway since it was a brand new step in a new direction. This is going to be the movie that makes or breaks the new universe for many...

    /captain obvious signing out

for the record, i would definitely be classified as a "hater" of 2009 trk, but im still going to give the sequel a fair chance

2009's "Star Trek" was no more "divisive" than any other Trek film. It was very well-received by fans and is generally liked. There's a small minority that disliked it(which is fine), but they're extremely vocal about it which makes it seem like there are more of them than there are.

I'm amazed how you can judge a movie you haven't seen yet, and whose plot is still essentially top secret, as lacking "originality".

And ironically, when it's also the twelfth in a series.

Exactly. This film is perhaps less divisive than all other successful ST films.

    That assumes they're doing Khan.

Doing Khan is a lack of originality. A new villain would be - wait for it - original. Rehashing the antagonist of the most successful prior film in the franchise reeks of desperation and is certainly not a move worthy of great praise. It seems to say, "we got nothing".

But at least there's a lot of amazement going on.

    I detect no desperation.
