Rumor of Spock in new movie??

I read the "We're talking, we're talking" interview. I suspect, with only a little over a year to go before hitting the big screens, that there will be a bazillion rumours floating around. IF, they decide to put Spock prime into this film I sure hope it is more for just window dressing. Knowing Nimoy, though, I suspect that is exactly what they are 'talking' about.

I always thought Nimoy wouldn't do a window dressing style cameo. He dropped out of Star Trek: Generations because that is all his appearance would have been.

Who knows? Maybe he has changed his mind about that sort of thing?

After viewing the interview, I don't think he intended his response to be taken seriously. The question was just thrown out there and he went with a light-minded answer.

No, no, I agree with you. I think that, if they are talking, it is over just that sort of thing. Nimoy would only do the part if it had some relevance in the film. Maybe it came out wrong the first time.

He's going to play Khan.

I thought he said last year that he had retired from acting. Maybe he's doing a voice-over thing sort of like what he did on "The Big Bang Theory" this season. Ohhh, maybe he's the new computer voice. :techman:
I think that if JJ Abrams asked him to unretire and appear in one of his productions Nemoy would unretire in an instant. He seems to have a real affection for Abrams and his work.

Spock Prime would be locked in a high security facility until his brain was drained of any important information about where he came from and what might happen in the nuuniverse. He actually knows a possible future and thats invaluable. Certain events are bound to be repeated at some point. Something as simple as hey guys go back in time and grab some whales might be something he could mention. So yea Nimoy could have lots do to in another film.

Which, IMO, totally invalidates ANY reason to rehash ANY Original Universe story. I simply cannot see Spock keeping a lid on ANY information which would give these people an edge. Not doing so makes him completely responsible for their destruction by Khan, the Probe or any other Original Saga antagonist. Yes, they could handle the situation(s) as well as the counterparts did but their success isn't guaranteed. Sharing all he knows with them increases their chances.

:vulcan: Hmm... Just thinking out loud but perhaps this means SPOCK MUST DIE. Perhaps 'Khan' will defeat Spock this time. He'll die taking knowledge of other [potential] Earth destroying events with him leaving them without this advantage, and giving Nimoy a final discharge.

Being highly intelligent and logical, Spock would know that he could not predict what the result of his providing such information would actually be.

Since he lives in the Star Trek universe, after all, most of the missions he has first-hand knowledge of have worked out very well for his side without any interference from "the future." So the motivation to interfere would be very limited, at best.

I agree. For example, if the Federation in TNG hadn't gotten their butt kicked by the Borg (as costly as it was) at Wolf 359, would they have beefed up enough to go against the Dominion in DS9? So, even the devastating losses, if he was to give information so they could be prevented could turn out to be a bigger disaster.

^That makes sense. That is the only way to keep Spock from spilling every nugget of info he has on future events. To keep him alive and have him choose to remain mute on vital intelligence issues which could save lives is imo ludicrous.

I suppose it is possible, however, they plan to totally pick and choose which prior Canon points are relevant or not. Perhaps Khan does exist but a Doomsday Machine capable of devouring planets does not, therefore no reason for Spock to issue a warning against it.

Bah! I deleted my post...

However much or little Spock Prime tells people about the future, they aren't going to bring back Nimoy in a Khan movie without mining the history they have. I mean, Spock died the last time he encountered Khan.

My prediction at this point is that Khan will present himself to Kirk and co. as Mr. Nice Guy and an ally against some Klingon threat... and that he'll kill Spock Prime to prevent him from telling everyone how malevolent Khan really is.

Yeah, Spock and Khan have an interesting history. I'm still pretty skeptical about another Khan movie, but if they're going to do it, I really think that Prime Spock should be a part of it.

This gives them the opportunity to steal a scene from Alien Resurrection:

"Hey, Spock, I hear you encountered this guy before."
"That's right."
"So, like... what'd you do?"
"I died."

To be fair, all Spock really needs to do is remind them to double-check which planet they're landing on. Ceti Alpha V...Ceti Alpha VI...it's fucking counting, guys. Let's try a little harder this time.

Spock Prime really needs to mind meld with Nu Spock, effectively making Spock an ongoing single character...

Maybe Google Maps mislabeled the planets when one of them exploded. Which reminds me. What kind of astronauts don't know when a whole fucking planet explodes? It's not like the debris is going to vanish. It should be noticeable that, hmm, where did that asteroid field come from, it's not on Google Maps...

I REALLY hope they don't kill Spock Prime. I went into STXI without a doubt he wasn't gonna survive that, and was thrilled that they left him alive and with a new purpose. A goodbye rather than a Generations-style death-for-the-sake-of-death.

Killing him.. would kill me.

The worst thing this movie could do is to have Prime Spock dying in NuSpock's arms. I would rather they rebooted Nemesis with a Reman NuKirk clone than that.

FFS, just let the old guy molder away on New Vulcan, drinking tea and dispensing wisdom.

I can see it:

nuKirk: Old Spock, how do I defeat Khan.

Old Spock: There's this completely dumbass chick with huge tata's. Her name is Marla McGivers. She goes for the muscle type. Dangle her in front of him. He'll go for that, you know, all tits, no brain, adoring type. Have her lure him to the transporter with the promise of a castle on the beach and a population to rule over. His minions will like that, they love to beat up women. Beam them all into outer space, and we won't ever have to be bothered by Carol Marcus and that little twit son of yours that causes future problems for me. Whatever you do, don't fight him hand to hand, he beats the shit out of you. Stick a bat in your pants and tell him you're happy to see him.

nuKirk: Sounds like a plan.
:guffaw:

Mildly funny, actually.
But laughing about your own joke?
