RUMOR: Chris Pine in negotiations for Kirk

According to an article in The Hollywood Reporter (who are usually reliable, right?), Chris Pine may take the role of Kirk, that is if he doesn't take a part in the new George Clooney film.

Don't know what I think about this guy. His last major part was in the Lindsay Lohan film Just My Luck. Plus, he just doesn't look very Kirk-like. Pike, maybe.

I don't really know enough about him to form an official opinion. He at least looks like Kirk, in my opinion.

Also, isn't it awesome how all of a sudden there seems to be a lot of Star Trek info flowing all of a sudden? First with the Bana signing, then the plot points from Roberto Orci, and now with more Kirk rumours. It's like the dam is cracking and we're about to have a deluge. I suspect we'll be flooded with info over the next few weeks as production is slated to begin in about a month.

I think he is a good choice. Much better than the other dude that was rumored for the Kirk role.

THR are not as good as Variety, but pretty good. In this case I can say that I heard the Pine thing earlier. We reported last week, that the Mike Vogel as the leading candidate for Kirk was not true...what I didnt report was that I head heard Pine was....I was trying to confirm that bit but THR beat me too it....bastards!!!

So far it is TrekMovie.com with two scoops (Saldana and Quino) and THR have two (Pine and Yelchin). Variety have one (Bana). If McGillion gets Scotty I will pull ahead.

Looks fine to me.

Saw him in Smoking Aces and he was pretty good. There's a clip of Just my Luck floating around (I think Anthony has it up at trekmovie).

No, I can definately see him as Kirk.

I agree. the Vogel dude looked too much like a Venice beach surfer dude to play Kirk.

His eyes are very, very unlike Shatner's. I'm not saying that contacts can't solve that, it's just that he has very distinctive eyes, which are very unlike The Shat's. First thing I noticed about him.


Other than that, he's not a bad likness, but I have no idea how good an actor he is.

^^I don't know... He kinda squints like Kirk. But yeah they are pretty blue and puppy dog like when he's looking right into a camera. Blue is readily correctable. Puppy dog? don't know.

"Star Trek" casting news was never this hot in the trade press back in the day, BTW.

He does. Honestly, it looks like we're going to get some second tier 20 year-old as Kirk, which is fine and understandable given the story, but I long for the days of Matt Damon. Unrealistic? Sure, but c'mon, those days were fun.

FWIW, I also think Kirk will be the last cast, or last character revealed cast. I think that might pump the excitement and anticipation for fans and also sort of bridge the gap with all of the ruckus sure to ignite when Kirk is cast and the commencement of filming, et al. Just my theory of course.

I'd rather see Erik Bana play Kirk. Who says he has to look like him ? I think that is a mistake, big time.

I think Pine would be a good Kirk. I remember him from Princess Diaries II (one of my daughter's faves) and he did well as a rogue with a heart of gold. Sounds like James T to me...
