Rumor: ‘Star Trek 3′ to Feel Like ‘Guardians of the Galaxy

it feels as if everything is coming together now, the dust is beginning to settle and the fog is beginning to clear and fans are beginning to see whag paramount is really up to.


first they imply they want trek be like guardians of the galaxy then they hire F&F director. the same F&F films known for the visual effects and swag than the story and substance. when you add that with the guardians of the galaxy influences. what you get for trek 3 is a silly , loud , mindless, fluffy and forgettable film that will try and cater to the masses by any means necessary.

And this is what has me shaking.

You know what was also successful? Interstellar. I wish they borrowed that formula.

See, relative disappointment just doesn't seem to fly. I get what you're saying, but in what reality is a film that makes nearly half a billion dollars considered a disappointment? Sequels don't always do well, and are usually a gambit. To have one that made almost $500 million, and on an only slightly larger budget, and have it be called a disappointment, that's just astounding. And that's just money. Critically speaking, Into Darkness hit it out of the park, with both critics and general audiences alike.

I'm amused by the concept that kids do not understand Star Trek. I was 8 when I first saw "Let this be your last battlefield" and understood the aspects of racism just fine.

Similarly, the themes running through 09 and ID are as prescient and relevant as what I felt at 8 years old, both the sense of adventure as well as the underlying commentary.

The idea that explosions are only for kids and that in order for Star Trek to be Star Trek is must be Shakespearean in its depth and verboseness is limiting, in my opinion. There is obviously a healthy balance to be struck between the tone of TMP and Nemesis, but one is not more Trek or less Trek because it has more action or less action.

Yes, this. I got into Star Trek when I was 4. I fully understood what I was watching by the time TNG began airing (I was born in 80). It really wasn't that difficult to grasp. Why do some people make it seem like Trek is high art? Yes, it has laudable ideas, some strong concepts, but too complex for children it is not. It's a science fiction TV show, not the entrance exam for MENSA.

I think it should be said that, at the end of the day, Star Trek is still for the most part a family show, which means it has a wide range of appeal. Sure, some episodes are darker or more violent or more morally ambiguous than others, but I remember as a youth that that only meant more discussion with my parents about what we just watched, where they could fill in the blanks if I didn't quite get it, or expand upon what I had already understood from the episode.

And that's one of Trek's strengths overall -- that its appeal is intergenerational is proof that children and adults alike can understand it. It means different levels or ways to enjoy it, but enjoy it nonetheless. The kid who's a Trekkie today will raise the Trekkies of tomorrow, and that's one of the major reasons why the franchise has lasted so long with no signs of stopping.

Or in other words, being a Trekkie runs in my family, and it'll keep going down the family line if I have anything to say about it!
