Rules for Posting on TrekBBS

A new heads-up to people who might not be checking the Announcements forum:

http://www.trekbbs.com/threads/signature-and-spamming-rule-changes.284050/

The update regarding spamming:
-No Spamming. You can't post the same thing multiple times on the board, or post the same thing over and over in a certain thread or forum, or continuously make posts that have no real content or relevance to what is being discussed. Spamming can even just be posting too much--as a general rule, don't post more than two or three threads in a forum within a reasonable length of time. Just posting stuff like "Okay, " or "I agree!" could be spamming. Contribute to a discussion; don't just build post count.

Also, some added attention to a couple of rules that I'm finding myself having to cite a lot:
- Post no more than twice in a row. This is so you don't dominate a discussion/thread. Use the quote function if you need to answer multiple posts aimed at you.
- Don't hotlink. If you're posting a picture, host it on your own site/Photobucket, whatever. DON'T just link to another site. They hate that.

Thanks, all.

Today's forum rules spotlight is on Hotlinking:

I just had to un-hotlink four images in three different threads in the last half-hour or so of browsing the forum, and I'm getting cranky about it. This shouldn't be a warnable offense, but it shouldn't be happening so often, either.

Premium members can upload files directly from their computers; for everyone else, If it's not an image from your own web space or a an image-hosting site like Photobucket, then just copy in a URL link, which should post as a clickable link rather than an embedded image.

Today's highlight is spoiler protocol, now that we have a new Trek production putting out episodes. Yeah, there's a new shiny and you wanna talk about it, but don't assume that everyone has seen it as soon as you have.

Borrowing from the rules that have been pinned in SF&F since Dubya was in office:
  • There should never be spoilers in thread titles.
  • If your thread contains or is likely to contain spoilers, please indicate that in the title, so folks looking to avoid spoilers can avoid them.
  • If you bring spoiler discussion into a regular thread, please use the spoiler code.
  • The statute of limitations on whether to consider an episode/film free of spoilers is SIX MONTHS from the time when it first airs, wherever it first airs. If a new episode of a series or film airs on June 1st in England then on Aug. 1st in the US, the clock starts ticking on June 1st.
Thank you for your consideration.

Hey folks,

I'm bumping this again because I've had to edit spoilers for Discovery several times recently.

The 6 month rule is in effect. The first episode aired Sept 24th, so the earliest you could post unhidden spoilers in this forum would be March 24th 2018. And that's only for the first episode.

PLEASE do not post DSC spoilers in this forum! That means you!

Thanks
