Rugby Union World Cup 2011

Watched it live. What a match. Incredibly close. I was rooting for France, but on some level I am glad NZ got to win on their soil. It could have gone either way. Congrats to NZ, and honour to France.

Best team in the world won without been the best team on the night. Their second RWC has been a long time coming due to their highly consistent dominance over the professional era.

Good for France for being vastly more competitive than anyone had anticipated. It could have gone either way - yet again goalkicking cost a team dearly.

Good for NZ, too. Quite extraordinary that it's taken them this long to win a second Cup.

Wasn't best of wins for new Zealand was it. Loved the French standing up the Haka though, brilliant. Must be gutting losing in a final by one point.

I actually watched a little bit of the final last night. Not sure what to think of the game, as I was tired from other activities from the weekend.

It was a fantastic response to the Haka, although I'm somewhat surprised some IRB dickhead didn't run onto the field and disqualify France for not simply standing there (incredibly, it's a rule or law or some such ). They are that pathetic, after all.

I knew something like that would happen, they already challenged the haka in 2007. Actually, I think that was less impressive than 2007 : (I don't have the sound here but I guess the comments are in French)

Yeah, must say as an All Blacks supporter I loved France showing some balls and standing up against the boys in black, and the IRB, brilliant!

We came home yesterday from a long weekend away - yesterday was Labour Day here - but watched the final live, and holy hell, what a nailbiter it was, good for Tony Woodcock and Stephen Donald to get the only points for the All Blacks, sad to see Aaron Cruden limp off before half time, though I'm sure it won't be the last time we see him in a black jersey. Well done to the French as well, who got agonisingly close to winning, and especially Thierry Dusatoir, who deservedly took home the man of the match and Player of the Year award yesterday.

All in all, it's nice to finally have the World Cup back in our hands after 24 long years. Take a bow All Blacks, you did your country proud!

No, the IRB just fined them $10,000. I think this is the second team to be fined under their rules concerning responses to pre-game challenges.

I'm glad the IRB is stamping down on the truly terrible aspects of the sport: the rogue mouthguards and the creation of spectacle and atmosphere. Another job well done by the IRB.

They really are giving FIFA and the ICC a genuine run for their money in the incompetency, stupidity and get-worked-up-over-nothing stakes. Why deal with real issues when they can fine individuals and teams for such heinous crimes? Geez.

Shaytan, that's brilliant. Thanks for sharing. :bolian:

The only Haka 'rules' I've heard of are:

- Challenging teams aren't supposed to go beyond their side of the halfway line (not sure how old this one is).
- Challenging teams aren't supposed to turn their back on the All Blacks while the Haka is in progress.

What is wrong with journalists in NZ ? They won and they're still going after every French player for every mistakes they might have done (according to my newspaper). Worst winners ever...

^ Can't say I've heard anyone from the media here complaining about the French team's conduct at all, it has been the complete opposite in fact, everyone has been saying how well the French have played and how graciously they've accepted defeat, much like what happened with Australia the week before. The only ones I've heard having a moan are the IRB, so I think it might be a case of your local rag trying to drum up sales.
