Royal Pains - Anybody watch on USA?

I think the brother works when they play up his serious side, but otherwise, he's not great as the "screw-up" that everyone laughs at or makes fun of.

The PA is fine, but I wish she'd stop snapping at his brother all the time.

Yup, either watch it that night or catch it on demand. USA has some damn good shows, In Plain Sight, Psych, haven't caught on to Burn Notice. Like Monk but am also glad this is the last season of it.

^Oh man, Burn Notice is good stuff.

Monk has sadly run it's course... I used to never miss an episode, now, it's been 2 years since I watched one even part of the way through. I hope he solves Trudy's Murder before the end.

Psych is fantastic.

In Plain Sight... I had to force myself to go back an rewatch the first episode clunker of Season 1 and get into it (Right after Season 2 came out), and I'm glad I did. That last episode scene with Paul Ben-Victor and the Spy-Guy was outstanding.

I'm also very glad each of these shows just got renewed for another season (Save Monk of course.)

Anybody been catching this show? It premiered along with Burn Notice this year. I think it's pretty good which means it's probably going to get cancelled, lol.
Judging by USA's advertising it is their breakout hit and they plan to up the doctor MacGyver angle.

It seems sometimes that most comedies have a breakout character and it is seldom who they thought it was going to be. The brother Evan seemed to be the planned comic relief but I find myself waiting on the PA Divya to show her face.

Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike Evan's character as much as I dislike the way he's looked upon by everyone else without consideration. He needs more substance in his characterization than womanizing money-grubbing layabout, and when the writers go in a different direction, I'd like the other characters to reflect those changes.

After this weeks episode, I wonder if Divya will mellow as her story arc unfolds in regards to Evan.

Well I can't wait for the final 2 episodes. This drama about Boris is finally heating up.

I have to say that Hank may have gotten the best line of the series when he told Boris that he wanted to make sure he was not living in a Bond villian's house.

I don't have cable, so I haven't had much of a chance to watch this show yet. However, I was on vacation for a couple weeks recently and USA seemed to be the only channel in the motels showing anything good with any regularity. It seemed like Royal Pains was on A LOT. It looks interesting. It & Burn Notice have this kind of slightly cheesy aftertaste that reminds me of all the old 1st run syndication shows that used to be on 10 years ago, like Jack of All Trades & Relic Hunter.

But what exactly is the premise of this show? Where are they? Who is this rich guy? And why are the pains "Royal"?

But what exactly is the premise of this show?
There is this doctor who made the mistake of giving priority of treatment to a "nobody" and a rich hospital patron died. He was fired from his hospital and blackballed by the NYC medical establishment. The doctor's little brother brings him to a party in the Hamptons when he becomes Dr. MacGyver in an emergency situation. As a result he comes to the attention of the rich guy who becomes the doctor's patron and puts him up in his house. The doctor and his brother start a business where they treat the inhabitants of the Hamptons, sort of like Michael Jackson's house physicians.

Along the way they dream of building a clinic to care for the house keepers grounds keepers and the poor support staff of the Hamptons. The doctor and his brother hook up with a PA from India, Divya, who hid from her parents her medical training. The parents thought she was in business school preparing to marry the proper man for the glory of the family business. Divya carries a chip on her shoulder because as a PA and not a MD she must fight for respect among some of the patients. The doctor hooks up with the administrator of the local hospital and his brother CFO of Hank med" is the comic relief.
Where are they?
The Hamptons, summer home to the rich and their support staff.
Who is this rich guy?
Right now he is the mysterious patron, a possibly Bond villian like guy according to our doctor.
And why are the pains "Royal"?
Because the rich patients demand privacy like the Queen and refuse to go to the local hospital out of fear that the entertainment news will find out and they will become the lead story on tabloids, TMZ, Xtra, etc.

I've "Tivo'd" the series but I haven't kept up with it in some time. I'm wondering where it will lead, if anywhere. I was hoping for more "Burn Notice: MD" and it's become more of a mystery as to what's going on with their "landlord." Plus, it's kind of boring.

Sadly, I gave up on this series. Not so much a fault of it's own but because I was caught up with too much to do at the time. Now I'm not sure I'll ever get back to it, unless it really picked up.

I tried it out, and quickly lost interest. The same with White Collar. They both seemed to follow the 'quirky guy not quite in his element' template, and i got bored.

Psyche is the only USA show I'm still watching.

It's one of those shows where I like everything except the male lead. He annoys me to no end. If he were to drop dead and the show continued on, it'd be perfect.
