Rough Beasts of Empire excerpt

Just perused this thread and the book's Memory Beta page. I guess we're finally going to learn where Kira has gone. I see there's a USS James T. Kirk (but not the same one as in ST-Online?) and a USS Robinson (named after Jackie Robinson maybe?). An earlier version of the page said the Aventine would be depicted in Rough Beasts..., but now that is no longer the case. I'm sure Benjamin would be proud of the "old man".

Has anyone who bought the eBook in ePub found the embedded fonts are yet again broken (not being displayed)?

As for the desk, it's too neat and the computer too white. We need reality. A cluttered desk with a non-white computer.

Looks like the fonts are not being displayed, but the css and formatting are better than they were in the previous two Typhon Pact books. Same with Shattered Light.

I could certainly deal with a nonwhite computer--and for my next computer, will likely end up with a silver model--but a cluttered desk? Can't do it.

Much to my gf's and parent's annoyance, I might add. I have a tendency to leave a mess wherever I go. I'd like to say that I've grown out of it. But as you might now, i'll never really grow up.

At no time in the gestation of Rough Beasts of Empire did I ever consider including Aventine and its crew. I have no idea why the ship was listed on the initial Memory Beta page for my novel, but somebody was probably simply surmising what might be in it, or perhaps they conflated an early description of my book with the one for Zero Sum Game.
